“We wanted the plants to feel like art pieces— sculptural and interesting,” Alyssa says of the tropical mix.

Alyssa Hassell (31 and a landscape architect) and Mikey James (33 and a graphic designer) tag-teamed their eclectic, outdoor celebration decked out in shades of peach, pink and green. Mikey designed the save-the-dates and invitations, while Alyssa made a watercolor map of the venue to make navigating the sweeping grounds all the easier for guests. Family also played a pivotal role, processing down the aisle ahead of the couple in bright ensembles of their choosing. “Some wore bolo ties and hats in the Texas spirit,” Alyssa says. Other members covered popular songs, from The Beatles to Vance Joy, for the ceremony. The pair exchanged vows beneath an oak tree at an altar made from hanging pampas grass after Alyssa walked down an aisle of rugs lined with swaths of grasses and mass plantings. —Becky Murray
