What’s a new trend you’re seeing in wedding menus?

People want more choices for seated dinners. Family style is popular, but sometimes there’s only so much room on the table. Another option is rolling carts of food between tables or adding a buffet so guests are brought a full meal when they sit down plus there’s all this bounty available too. The best thing is having unexpected items in addition to the dinner. This can be as simple as a bowl of shaved corn that the guests pass around or more extensive offerings of multiple dishes. @petercallahan

What floral trends are you loving right now?

Tropicals are having a moment across all seasons, especially beautiful leaves as they come in various shapes, sizes and shades. They can be really interesting and provide a ton of texture. They happen to be the nonflower floral trend currently. I also love when flowers aren’t in traditional arrangements, like if they’re popping out of unexpected places. It feels otherworldly, as if they’re a part of the space and not just decorative. @flowergirlnyc, @deniseporcarotupper

You chose the roses for the cover— how did you personalize them for this shoot?

Since roses are a main element on the cover, I knew it was important to source something special. David Austin roses are award winning for their uniquely beautiful blooms and fragrance. I came across them years ago and have never looked back. Brides should ask for this quality of flowers when choosing stems for their wedding. They won’t disappoint, I promise. @stevennassimos

RACHEL SYLVESTER

ASSOCIATE REAL WEDDINGS EDITOR

What’s your favorite part about working at The Knot?

I see hundreds of real weddings a year, so I’m constantly surrounded by inspiring images of cakes, flowers, dresses, tear-jerking first looks and plenty of puppies in tuxedos. But the best part of my job is having the privilege of sharing a couple’s love story with the rest of the world. It’s incredibly rewarding to have a hand in their personal narrative. @rachelsylvester

The Knot team is always prepared, yet open to the spontaneous changes that happen during a shoot. Wedding cakes are often shot more romantically, so we really wanted to go contemporary and fashion forward. We had a blast playing around with colored backgrounds and the unique modern look. The cakes were masterpieces, and it was fun figuring out the different sets and props that highlighted each one’s details best. By the end of the day, we were all just hoping for a slice! @pernilleloof
