What I Loved About My Wedding High school sweethearts Kayla Varner and Washington Nationals’ player Bryce Harper tell us about their rustic, intimate dream day. PHOTOGR APHY BY INDIA EARL PHOTOGR APHY

Ring Ceremony Celebration We wed in the San Diego California LDS Temple. Our religion is very private and the temple ceremony is sacred, so only our immediate family members attended. To include the rest of our guests in the special moment, we had a ring ceremony exchange on the dance floor.

it poured on their wedding day, so the newlyweds happily embraced Mother Nature’s good luck

Raising the Barn For our reception, we were excited to book the San Diego Polo Fields. It offered a blank slate for us to create our rustic venue: a clear tent with a “barn” facade. We added personal décor touches, like a vintage baseball scoreboard as a nod to Bryce’s baseball career.

Tears of Joy Our first look was a really cool moment because we had waited so long for it to happen. His reaction was something I think every bride wants to see, and I couldn’t be more excited he acted that way. He cried all day.

Desserts for Days We’re self-described foodies and had a doughnut wedding cake and doughnut wall. We also included a hot chocolate bar, a candy bar, a churro bar with vanilla bean ice cream, and a s’mores station.

Snapshot Suit Bryce wore an amazing custom suit from Stitched—the inner lining of the jacket featured photos from our engagement shoot. A couple years ago he had his jacket lining decorated with his number, 34, and “MVP ’15,” so that’s where he got the idea.

Bryce showed Kayla his jacket during their first look so she could be surprised too
