According to the Bible, the Jewish connection to the city of Jerusalem, the capital of the Israeli state, has started 5,000 years ago when Abraham walked his son Isaac on the mount of Moriah, attempting to bind him as God instructed him. The Christian tie takes us 2,000 years ago, to the place where Christianity was born and Jesus was crossified and buried. The Islamic connection says that Prophet Muhammad ended his journey to Mecca in Jerusalem, where, according to the Muslim belief, he rose up to heaven. But Jerusalem is also a modern, constantly changing city where one can enjoy a rich culture and a unique culinary scene. The millions of people who tour Jerusalem nowadays can visit the Old City, surrounded by the Walls that were built by the Turkish Sultan Suleiman the 1st in the 16th century. Jerusalem’s Walls that circle the Old City, have eight gates, but only seven of them are open. The Old City is divided to four quarters: Jewish, Muslim, Christian and Armenian, all of which are colorful, authentic and give a feeling that time has stood still. The Old City’s market is full of small businesses and shops, restaurants and churche’s and this is where the main key religious sites are concentrated: the Temple Mount and its Western Wall for Jews, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre for Christians, and the Dome of the Rock and al-Aqsa Mosque for Muslims. Outside of the Old City’s Walls are modern neighborhoods, culture and shoppingcenters, museums, and about 40 hotels of all levels and kinds.
