KANICQWA R. MULDROW Kanicqwa Regna “Penny” Muldrow, 17, died on Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, at Palmetto Health Richland, Columbia. She was born on April 11, 1997, in Manning, a daughter of Raynald and Ella Verleen Brown Muldrow. Penny was a senior at CrestMULDROW wood High School. She also attended the Sumter Career Center and Central Carolina Technical College. She was a member of Howard Chapel AME Church, where she served as a YPD member, youth usher and sang with the young adult and mass choirs. Survivors are her parents, Raynald and Ella Brown Muldrow of the home; a sister, Kimberly LaSandra (Michael) Douglas of New Zion; adoring nephews, Ardajeone Mickelle, Zymarione Leon and Jeremiah Zy’Kelle Douglas; paternal grandmother, Ada Burgess of Gable; adopted sisters, Erica Hicks of Manning and Lorina Witherspoon of Turbeville; an adopted brother, Maurice McDowell of Sumter; several aunts and uncles. Public viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at the Hayes F. & LaNelle J. Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel, 114 N. Church St., Manning. Celebratory services for Ms. Muldrow will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Maywood Middle School, North Brewington Road, Sumter, with the Rev. Oliver Davis, pastor of Howard Chapel AME Church, officiating, the Rev. Dr. R.L. McCants presiding and the Rev. Dr. Ella Busbee, Elder Willie Witherspoon and the Rev. Jerome McCray assisting. Burial will follow in the Howard Chapel AME Church cemetery. Ms. Muldrow will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time. The family is receiving friends at the home of her parents, 2050 U.S. Highway 378, Sumter. These services have been entrusted to Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

NATALIE B. COOPER CHARLOTTE — Natalie B. Cooper, affectionately known as “Neet,” was born on March 5, 1964, in Sumter, to Geraldine and the late Nathaniel Cooper. Natalie, one of God’s servants, peacefully completed her journey on earth and COOPER took residence in her new and eternal home on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015. Share in the celebration of Natalie’s life at noon today at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Matthews, North Carolina. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon. Interment will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Goodman Cemetery, Lynchburg. Long & Son Mortuary Service of Charlotte is serving the Cooper family.

JERLINE H. SAM BISHOPVILLE — Jerline Hooks Sam entered eternal rest on Monday, Feb. 9, 2015, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center in Hartsville. Visitations will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. today at the mortuary. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Mt. SAMMIE HARRY JR. Sammie Harry Jr., 63, was called to his eternal home at his residence in Lynchburg on the afternoon of Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015. Born on Aug. 13, 1951, in Lee County, he was the 10th of 14 children born to the union of the late Sammie Sr. and Aletha Henry Harry. At an early age, Sammie Jr. joined Mt. Pleasant AME Church in Lynchburg. He was

educated in the public schools of Lee County and was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School Class of 1970. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and served until 1973. He later obtained his certification in automotive technology from Sumter Area Technical College in 1978. He was employed with Sonoco Products Co. of Hartsville, until his retirement after 28 years of service. Sammie Jr. was united in holy matrimony to Elizabeth Williams Harry for 41 years. He was a good leader and role model for his children, grandchildren, family and friends. He enjoyed drag racing, fishing, playing pool, entertaining family and friends, and spending time with his grandchildren. He leaves to cherish his precious memories: a loving and devoted wife, Elizabeth; four children, Selena Williams of Sumter, Ezra Christopher (Tawonia) Thomas Sr. and Reginald Harry, both of Columbia, and Donna Harry of the home; four brothers, Willie (Leanna) Harry of Lynchburg, Nathaniel (Annette) Harry of Detroit, Michigan, and Robert (Denise) Harry and Nelson Harry, both of Lynchburg; four sisters, Mary Singletary and Azalee Morrison, both of Sumter, Eliza Ware of Fort Pierce, Florida, and Virginia Harry of Lynchburg; a special nephew / godson, Sammie Harry of Atlanta; seven grandchildren; two brothers-in-law; three sistersin-law; two aunts, Evelina Charles of Jersey, New Jersey, and Ethel Catten of Sumter; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sotonya Clayton; four brothers, Joe Nathan, James and Joe Lewis Harry and Roosevelt Durant; and a sister, Eloise Lisbon. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Mt. Pleasant AME Church, 1800 Vista Lane, Lynchburg, with the Rev. Ernest Brown, pastor, eulogist, assisted by Minister Harrison Freeman. The family is receiving family and friends at the home, 2925 U.S. 76 West, Lynchburg. The remains will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. The procession will leave at 10:30 a.m. from the home. MARY SIMMONS Mary Simmons, 91, of Sumter, passed away on Feb. 5, 2015. Born on March 4, 1923, in Graniteville, she was a daughter of Robert L. Vause and Louis Thelma Attebury. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 40 years, Robert Simmons, former band director of Sumter High School for many years. Survivors include the families of Barry and Sarah Simmons, Bobby and Lisa Simmons, and four grandchildren, Jordan, Bryant, Jenny and Rachel. Graveside services are planned for 2:30 p.m. on Sunday at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery in Sumter. She will be laid to rest next to her husband. REGINALD HIGHTOWER II TAMPA, Fla. — Reginald Hightower II entered eternal rest on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015, in Tampa. Born on April 9, 1986, in Portsmouth, Virginia, he was a son of Reginald and Sylvia L. Brown Hightower. BONNIE C. PERDUE Bonnie Cain Perdue, 77, died on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Dixon, Illinois, she was a daughter of the late William and Ida Howell Cain. Mrs. Perdue was twice married, first to the late Robert Moore and later to the late Richard Perdue. MARY A. GEDDINGS Mary Avins Geddings, 78, died on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Ernest A. and Nora Ardis Avins. Mrs. Geddings was a faithful member of Sumter First Church of the Nazarene for more than 51 years, serving in various capacities. She was a retired executive secretary for Demosthenes McCreight & Riley, AIA architects for more than 45 years.

BETTY COLEMAN LYNCHBURG — Betty F. Coleman, age 61, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015, at her home after an illness. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Ted Coleman of the home; a daughter, Jessica A. Born on Jan. 5, 1934, in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Warren and Mariah Prince Slater. She received her education in the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1953. She retired from Lerner Shops as a payroll accounts clerk in Brooklyn, New York. She returned to Sumter and renewed her membership with Clark United Methodist Church and served on the senior choir, birthday ministry, missionary and the UM Women’s Committees.
