Sam Simon, co-creator of “The Simpsons” died, as did Harris Wittels, a producer of “Parks & Recreation.” Documentary pioneer Albert Maysles died in 2015. His approach would inspire reality television, both good and bad. That genre saw many losses in 2015, too many among the young. Ahmad “Real” Givens (“Real Chance at Love”), Mirjana Puhar (“America’s Top Model”), Cristie Schoen Codd (“Food Network Star”), Linsey “Jade” Berardi (“Bad Girls Club”), Anthony Riley (“The Voice”), Tony Lara (“Deadliest Catch”) Erik Roner (“Nitro Circus”) and Bobbi Kristina Brown all died before their time. As did Sawyer Sweeten, a child actor who grew up on the set of “Everybody Loves Raymond.” Character actors best

known for their roles as mobsters, Alex Rocco and Robert Loggia, died this year. Other great character actors who left the world’s stage this year include Taylor Negron, Richard Dysart (“L.A. Law”) and James Best (“Dukes of Hazzard”). Ben Woolf left us this year, just after appearing as Meep on “American Horror Story: Freak Show.” These personalities may have departed, but their images remain on our screens and in our memories. • The El Rey network launches a 24-hour marathon of the 2002 remake of the “Twilight Zone” (6 a.m.), hosted by Forest Whitaker. Rod Serling’s original “Twilight Zone” also appears on Syfy through Sunday. A “Walking Dead” (9 a.m. to 5 a.m., AMC, r, TV-14) marathon unfolds, along with an epic “Mythbusters” (Science, r) marathon, running until Monday morning. Car buffs can spend the day with “Fast N’ Loud” (9

a.m. till 3 a.m., Discovery).

Before 2015 recedes into history, let’s look back at those we’ve lost from the world of television. Jan. 1 brought news of the death of Donna Douglas, Elly May from The “Beverly Hillbillies.” Soon after, we lost celebrity-talk-show pioneer Joe Franklin. “60 Minutes” correspondent Bob Simon would die suddenly about two weeks before Leonard Nimoy, forever associated with the logical Vulcan Mr. Spock. Actress Anne Meara, wife of Jerry Stiller and mother of Ben, died soon after. “Eight is Enough” star Dick Van Patten died on June 23, two days before Patrick MacNee, the sophisticated Mr. Steed from “The Avengers.” Frank Gifford, the voice at the center of the classic “Monday Night Football” team died on Aug. 9. ESPN anchor Stuart Scott also died in this year. Batgirl Yvonne Craig of the 1960s “Batman” TV show expired this summer. Judy Carne and Gary Owens of “Laugh-In” fame died this year, as did Martin Milner, star of “Adam-12” and “Route 66.” Jack Larson, forever typecast for his Jimmy Olsen role in the 1950s “Superman,” left us in September, nine days before the death of “Petticoat Junction” star Pat Woodell. We also lost Catherine Coulson, best known as the “Log
