GRANT J. CONYERS PINEWOOD — Grant Jimmy Conyers, 70, died on Saturday, March 18, 2017. He was a son of the late Abraham and Mary Lee Moore Conyers. DORETHA B. GEDDIE Doretha “Shirley” Brown Geddie was born on March 17, 1949, in Sumter, a daughter of the late Joseph Brown Sr. and Mae Bell Wright Brown. She departed this earthly life on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at McLeod Hospice House, Florence. Shirley accepted Christ at an early age and attended Bethel AME Church. She was united in holy matrimony to Thomas Geddie. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: one daughter, Sandy Ann Geddie of the home; three sons, Thomas Geddie and Frankie (Monique) Geddie, both of Wedgefield, and Teddie Geddie of Summerville; six granchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Allen of Wedgefield and Pauletta Abrams of Killeen, Texas; one brother, Eugene (Gladys) Brown of Wedgefield; one sister-in-law, Mary Brown of Sumter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other rel-

MANNING — Evangelist Sarah Louise Miller, 69, died on Sunday, March 19, 2017. She was a daughter of the late Jarrett Roy and Hester James Parson Miller. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Clarendon School District 1 Resource Center, 1154 Fourth St., Summerton, with the Rev. G.K. Carter officiating and Minister Antonio Green, Bishop Sam Miller, the Rev. Leroy Green and the Rev. Leroy Dingle assisting. Burial will follow in Hopkins Cemetery, Davis Station. JOAN M. HITESMAN Joan M. Hitesman, age 89, beloved wife of the late Charles W. Hitesman, died on Thursday, March 23, 2017, at her residence. Arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced by Bullock Funeral Home.

CHRISTINE MCCLAM On March 21, 2017, God saw an angel that he wanted to serve in his kingdom and he called Christine McClam, 59, home after a brief illness. Born on Jan. 5, 1958, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Mitchell and Icybell Brayboy McClam. She attended the public schools of Sumter County and was a graduate of Sumter High School Class of 1976. Christine served in the United States armed forces, the Army division, for 13 years, touring in Germany and Korea. She was a member of St. John United Methodist Church, Lake City. Later, she joined New Life Church in Dalzell under the leadership of Pastor Billy Bennett. She leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, Sanobia and Amelia McClam of Sumter; six grandchildren; two sisters, Almae Nancy (Herbert) Holmes of Sumter and Ida B. McClam of Houston, Texas; two brothers, Mitchell Dee (Selina) McClam and Johnny (Virginia) McClam, both of Sumter; one uncle, Troy Brayboy of Sumter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Homegoing services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. MICHAEL WORKMAN Michael Workman, 27, died on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, in Sumter County. Born on Dec. 18, 1989, he was a son of Randal and Carley T. Spann Workman. WILLIE MARTIN SR. On Monday, March 20, 2017, surrounded by his family, Willie Martin Sr., 84, took the wings of the morning and answered the call from the almighty and sovereign God to come home at Palmetto Health Tuomey. Born on June 11, 1932, in Dalzell, Willie and his three brothers and one sister were raised by his mother, the late Aline Martin. As a child, Willie, who was affectionately known as “J.W.,” was taught to honor God and his elders.

FRIDAY, MARCH 24, 2017 Willie married the love of his life, Sallie Mae Nathaniel, on June 20, 1953. To this union three children were born and seven children were raised. Determined to expose their family to the finer things in life, they migrated to New York. For many years, New York was home for the Martin family. The family church was the Pentecostal House of Prayer, where Willie was ordained and served as a deacon for more than 40 years. In 1996, Willie and his wife returned to Sumter to spend their golden years closer to their place of origin. After much prayer and consideration, he found his new church home, Grace Cathedral, where he served proudly as an usher and greeter until his health began to fail him. He leaves to cherish his legacy: his children, Willie (Martina) Martin Jr. of East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, Perry (Brenda) Martin of St. Albans, New York, Talitha Martin Harrison of Sumter, Stacey (Estee) Bullock of Bensalem, Pennsylvania, Alexis Demore of Sumter, Arnell Martin of Port St. Lucie, Florida, and Ashley Martin of Sumter; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five sisters-in-law; two brothersin-law; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Homegoing services will be held at noon on Saturday at Grace Cathedral Ministries, 60 Oswego Highway, Sumter, with the Rev. Anthony Gibson officiating, eulogist. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the family home, 15 Malibu St., Sumter. A wake service will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter. LARRY E. JENNINGS SR. Larry Edward Jennings Sr., 75, husband of Carol Rodgers Jennings, died on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at his home. Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Louie Edward Jennings and Edna McLeod Jennings. Mr. Jennings was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He retired from DuPont. He was an avid Clemson and Atlanta Braves fan as well as an avid fisherman and hunter. He was twice married, first to the late Patsy Caughman Jennings. Surviving are his wife of Sumter; three sons, Larry Jennings Jr. (Pam) of Sumter, Matthew Jennings (Adrianne) of Ladson and Rian Jennings of Sumter; a daughter, Michelle Jennings of Asheville, North Carolina; two sisters, Betty Jean Griffin of Sumter and Annette Altman of Lake City; and four grandchildren, Joshua Jennings (Sydney), Adam Jennings, Bethany Jennings and Kaiden Jennings. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne Jennings and Raymond Jennings. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday in the chapel of Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with Donnie Altman officiating. Burial will be in the Home Branch Baptist Church cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Joshua Jennings and Adam Jennings, and nephews, Ricky Altman, Christopher Ainsworth and Raymond Brown and Matt Brown. Honorary pallbearer will be Buddy Hensley.
