And it is hard to argue with the convenience of picking up fresh organic local produce and fresh caught fsh for your weekend dinner party, topped of with locally grown fowers for the table.

Others say that they just enjoy one of the best cups of organic cofee and a homemade mufn while gazing out at the bay or meeting friends in the café.

But there are other important features of this farmers’ market that are equally noteworthy. With the original idea to give the community access to local, seasonal, organic food and to make that available to all residents, the market participates in the New York State Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program. This provides assistance for the WIC (Women, Infants and Children’s Program) and a supplemental food program for seniors.

This season there are quite a few new vendors, including Jonny Breads, La Trafla Pasta, and The Cheese Guy. They also welcome back Demetria’s Organic Farm, Catch of the Hamptons Fish, and many other food purveyors shoppers have come to count on.

Be sure to follow the market on Instagram for weekly updates on guests.

The market also features smaller growers who come when their crops are ripe for harvest, such as the early summer organic strawberries from Golden Earthworm and apples in the fall from the Old Bethpage Restoration Farm.

Ross Ber is the local beekeeper at the Dodge Farm who provides some special sweetness from his hives.

What else is diferent about the Port Market?

Farmers’ markets are one of the few places where you can buy food without plastic packaging, so if you’re trying to avoid it, here’s your chance!

Vendors must also use biodegradable BioBags in place of traditional plastic bags, and customers are encouraged to bring their own bag or basket. Grassroots works hard to make sure that the market vendors ofer high-quality products, choosing quality over quantity and putting people and the planet frst.

Follow the market on social media for the most up-to-date news regarding vendors and specials.
