Gomez tapped as student of month Roslyn High School senior Evan Gomez was honored by the Roslyn Rotary Club as the October Student of the Month at its luncheon on Oct. 22, 2015. Evan’s community service included working on the Service Crew at summer camp Northern Frontier in the dining hall cleaning floors, tables, pots, pans and helping organize stock. He also worked as Worship Team Drummer at Beacon Church and as a counselor and tutor to young children struggling in math
and English. He worked with the Roslyn High School Auditorium crew setting up audio, video and lighting for events that took place in the school.

Which schools require the CSS Profile? If you don’t think you qualify for financial aid, should you still apply for it? When are the deadlines? On Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m., The Wheatley School Guidance Department will answer these and many more questions at Financial Aid Night. The department has arranged for an expert speaker to cover all the “ins and outs” of the financial aid process along with information that will help you better understand what is available to you and your family. We are excited to share that during the morning of Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016, Wheatley will host its first Career Fair for high school juniors and seniors to support them in exploring future career options. Wheatley is looking for interested professionals who would like to share what they have learned as our students prepare for and consider their own future. The topic of his workshop was guidance technology resources. Wheatley Winter Sports PreSeason Meetings The remaining winter sports pre-season meetings are listed below. Monday, Nov. 16 • 2:30 p.m. – Boys Winter Track Pre-Season Meeting in the gym – Coach Walsh For a student to be eligible for try-outs, each student-athlete must have a completed and updated Health Appraisal Form (be less than one year old) on file in the Health Office. The Parent-Student Consent Form must be completed for
each new season and sport and submitted to the school nurse for her signature. All these forms must be completed prior to your student-athlete being permitted to participate in try-outs. Wheatley Student Named Long Island Young Scholar of Mathematics Congratulations to eighth grader Aaron Zachariah who is among 84 Long Island students named a Long Island Young
Scholar of Mathematics and has been accepted into the Institute of Creative Problem Solving for Gifted and Talented Students at SUNY at Old Westbury. Students selected through nominations, school transcripts, teacher recommendations, a brief statement written by the student and a rigorous entrance exam, are expected to attend 60 hours in class over the course of 20 Saturday mornings. Congratulations Aaron! Wheatley Senior Presents at Philosophy Conference Wheatley senior Jeffrey Poomkudy presented at the Long Island High School Philosophy Conference held at The Stony Brook School, Stony Brook, New York on Saturday, Oct. 31. He gave a presentation titled “Augustine and Spinoza: A Dichotomous Approach to the Good Life.” You may remember that Jeffrey represented the United States in the 23rd International Philosophy Olympiad in Estonia last year. Congratulations to Jeffrey and his advisor, Social Science Research teacher Andrew Ardito. Save the Date – Family Math Day – March 5, 2016 Nassau County Math Teachers Association and Nassau County Association of Math Supervisors will be holding their 28th annual Family Math Day to be held on March 5, 2016 at the Stratford Road School in Plainview.
