GNPS/TV shows opera, student films Airing now through July 31, don’t miss seeing these exciting Great Neck Public Schools Television (GNPS/TV) shows: South High School’s Opera: The Marriage of Figaro; Great Neck Public Schools: Celebrating 200 Years of Excellence, and Student Filmmakers Showcase. Details follow. The Marriage of Figaro South High School has presented operas for over 40 years. This past March, the school performed Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro. This opera is a witty yet profound tale of love, betrayal, and forgiveness. Figaro, a barber turned into Count Almaviva’s major-

domo, advised him to marry Rosine, but their marriage has gone sour because of the Count’s philandering. Figaro is engaged to Suzanne, Countess Rosine’s maid—and the Count’s next intended conquest. Add to the mix, crusty, old Dr. Bartholo, who seeks revenge on Figaro for taking Rosine away from him, and his assistant, the slimy, music-master, Don Bazile. Contributing to the fun are an amorous teenager, a scheming old maid, a drunken gardener, and a silly young girl. The Marriage of Figaro airs at 9 a.m., and 2 and 7 p.m. Celebrating 200 Years of Excellence
