E A R T H D AY C E L E B R AT I O N S Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth, Councilwoman Anna Kaplan, Councilwoman Lee Seeman, Town Clerk Wayne Wink and Receiver of Taxes Charles Berman attended the Earth Day celebration at the Parkville School in New Hyde Park on April 30. Students had their environmentally friendly art projects on display,, enjoyed a musical Earth Day performance from Paul Helou, and were presented with books for the school library from the Town. Bosworth, Berman were joined by Councilman Peter Zuckerman at the Denton Avenue School in New Hyde Park on April 29 for festivities, including an Earth Day poetry reading, a musical performance from Paul Helou and a presentation from the Town of environmental books for the school’s library.

10 from NHP receive Regents scholarships Ten students from New Hyde Park Memorial High School were recipients of the 2015 Scholarship for Academic Excellence Award from the New York State Board of Regents. Congratulations to Kaajal Ahuja, Abraham Alex, Justin Jose, Gautam Nayyar, Morgan Roth, Sharon Santhosh, Armaan Shah, Jay Shah, Abeer Tahir and Teena Thomas.

Guerra claims silver medal at SkillsUSA New Hyde Park Memorial High School senior Miguel Guerra was awarded a silver medal for a pin design he submitted in the SkillsUSA, New York State pin design contest. Several hundred-pin designs were entered in the competition, which also tasked contestants with writing a brief description as to why they chose certain colors and images to represent the State of NY and SkillsUSA. SkillsUSA is district club in the Career and Technical Education department, which is housed at Se- Miguel Guerra with a mock up of his winning design. wanhaka High School.

Nine from Herricks win awards at science fair On Sunday, April 26, nine Herricks High School Science Research students received awards at the 2015 WAC Lighting Research Association Invitational Science Fair held at Schreiber High School in Port Washington. More than 300 student research projects were presented to more than 125 judges in the day-long

competition. In its 20th year, the fair is organized by the Research Association, a non-profit organization of research educators from thirteen local high schools. The fair is sponsored by the WAC Lighting Foundation, a responsible lighting company based in Port Washington. The following students

were recognized for their work: 1st Place- Molecular Biology- Bongseok Jung 2nd Place- Molecular Biology- Vikram Kristamoorthy 2nd Place- Prototype Engineering- Jim Tse Honorable Mentions: Ben Jung, Deepti Mahajan, Sabreen Bhuiya, Shweta Lodha, Michelle Vancura, Raphael Kim
