We are proud to partner with Nantucket High School to promote the social and athletic endeavors of our island youth that are so important for a healthy community, and we are fortunate so many of our members are engaged in coaching Nantucket children.

To the Class of 2024:
Each spring, The Inquirer and Mirror celebrates the graduating seniors of Nantucket High School as they prepare to take the next step into the rest of their lives.
For the 125 members of the Class of 2024, their high-school career has been an especially challenging and unusual one, with hybrid and at-home learning early on during the pandemic, and intramural instead of interscholastic fall sports freshman year due to COVID-19. Selfquarantining, mask mandates and “remote learning” were not even in the lexicon four years ago.
This year marked even more of a return to normalcy than last year, but even graduation, that most special rite of passage, will be different, as it was the last three years. It will be held outdoors, on the football field, instead of in the high-school auditorium.
Most importantly, students will receive their diplomas in the presence of all their classmates, with family members and friends watching proudly.
The challenges and frustrations of the past four years should in no way diminish all that this senior class has accomplished during its time in high school: the academic and athletic successes, the friendships made and lifetime bonds forged.
The memories this class shares will be all the stronger because of its perseverance in such unusual times.
We are publishing this supplement to celebrate this most resilient class, to congratulate them and wish them the best of luck in whatever future endeavors they may pursue.

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

To the Class of 2024, Four years ago, we started this journey together, filled with more uncertainty than answers. Four years later, we end our journey together. Some questions have been answered, but I am confident you have many questions yet to answer. These last four years have not been the easiest, but hopefully, along the way, you have learned that we are all the product of our choices. We must live with these choices, some good, some teachable, some regrettable, yet all leading to what comes next for each of you. Unfortunately, we’ve grieved together too many times during your high school tenure. Through it all, I sincerely hope that as you walk across the stage on Friday evening, you remember the lessons and knowledge you have gained along the way; information that will assist you in weighing your options, considering the consequences of your decisions, and that you ultimately make the choices that will help you make your dreams come true and support you in becoming the best version of yourself.
As you cross that stage and leave Vito Capizzo Field, remember that your teachers, administrators and school staff have strived to instill good decision-making skills in each of you. Nelson Mandela once said, “May your choices reflect your hope, not your fear.” I wish you the ability to go after your dreams, accept others for their uniqueness, love yourself and know that you are loved for who you are.

The Nantucket Yacht Club congratulates its 2024 scholarship recipients
Shea Dwyer, Hawkin Edwardes, and Griffin Starr. They will each receive a $28,000 scholarship over four years. Scholarships of $1,000 were also awarded to Colin Christie, Sam Iller, and Ella Hofford.
The Nantucket Yacht Club Foundation has been supporting island scholars since 2001.
In addition, prior-year scholarship recipients from the class of 2023, 2022, and 2021 continue to receive scholarship support from the Nantucket Yacht Club Foundation.
