OBITUARIES Doreen Honora Monson (nee Poole) Doreen Honora Monson (nee Poole) was born in Neepawa, Man on September 30, 1920, died peacefully in Leduc, Alta on November 23, 2011 at the age of 91 years. Doreen was the eldest daughter of Elizabeth Stuart-Poole and Walter David Poole. She was sister to Celia (Laverne) Tufts (who survives her), Elmer and Arnold. Doreen was mother to eight children, David (deceased), James (deceased), Valerie (Eduardo Cardona), Richard (Carolyn Larson), Robert (deceased), and Elizabeth, children of Doreen and Jim Proctor; and Michael (Pamela Scholey) and Mary Ellen Whitworth (Paul Konyer), children of Doreen and Joseph Aylward. She will be remembered by her family which now includes many nieces and nephews and twelve grandchildren, Carianne (Roger Verret) and Christopher Proctor (Allison Gibson), Luckas and Katia Cardona, Lise Pye (Jason Pye) and Kris Benson, Amy and Matthew Vincent, Richard and Colin Whitworth, James (Lavern) and Leonard Proctor; and 11 great-grandchildren, Lauren and Evan Verret, Megan and Connor Proctor, Alexandrah, Lola and Joaquin Cardona, Leif Pye, Ashley Vincent, Ava Khan, and Danielle Proctor. Doreen also survived two other husbands, Louis Souyri and Eric Monson. Doreen leaves behind many friends she made while living her youth in Manitoba, while raising her family in Biggar, Sask., and during her retirement which she lived out in Princeton, B.C., Amaranth, Man., and Edmonton, Alta. Her strength of character, her resourcefulness, tenacity and her outgoing personality will serve as a source of pride and inspiration to her children and those who knew her well. May she rest in peace after a long, productive life. The funeral was held at St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church in Edmonton, Alta. on November 29, 2011. Anna Ficych (nee Zidkovich) Anna died peacefully on the morning of December 3, 2011 with her husband of 41 years, Samuel, by her side. Anna was born on November 19, 1945 in Biggar, Sask., the ¿fth child to Michael and Nettie (Novitski) Zidkovich. Anna grew up a strong willed farm girl with a generous disposition; but farming was not in her blood. After graduating high school and Business College in Saskatoon, Anna’s eyes looked East moving to Winnipeg, Man. in 1965 where she met and married Samuel in 1970. Together their lives and careers took them to Montreal in 1976 and Toronto in 1995. Regardless of where they lived, their home was an open door for others to stay and enjoy their hospitality. Anna’s family roots were important to her and she would frequently travel to home to help her parents as they transitioned through various seasons of life. Anna could always be counted on as an attentive listener, to enjoy a good coffee, and to organize and carry out big events, including her mother’s recent 100th birthday party this past August. After retirement, Anna volunteered at various endeavours. Anna was predeceased by her father, Michael; her brother, John; and Samuel’s parents. Mourning her loss is her husband, Samuel; her mother, Nettie Zidkovich; and many friends and family; sister, Vera and Dave Friesen; brother, Paul and lone Zidkovich; sister, Mary and Warren Kroeker; sister-inlaw, Kalene and Stan Lipka; brother, Alexander and Cheryl Zidkovich; brother, Wes and Marlyn Zidkovich; brother David and Romina Zidkovich; sisterin-law, Patti and Peter Kuntz; sister-in-law, Irene Olynyk; brother-in-law, Larry Ficych and Sue Forster; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Grondin Funeral Services, 118 - 2nd Ave. East, Biggar, Sask. from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. on Friday, December 16, 2001. A Service of celebrating Anna’s life will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2011 from Biggar Associated Gospel Church, Biggar, Sask. at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Biggar Cemetery, Biggar, Sask. For those who wish, donations may be made in Anna’s memory to Biggar Associated Gospel Church Elevator Project would be appreciated.
