Q? Do you offer funding for your low energy lighting systems?

A NO not at this time, however, in general, during the period of the loan or lease, the operating lighting cost energy savings are sufficient to pay over the loan to cover both the lighting and the installation, thereafter all cost savings are on-going and are monetised directly to the bottom line commensurate with improved lighting, carbon emissions reduction, reduced maintenance costs, and, where appropriate, CRC tax savings.

Q? Are your low energy lighting solutions tax relief compliant?

A YES – in general our solutions are compliant under the Government’s ECA scheme and will have huge cash flow benefits in the year of purchase.

A. All our customers have benefited from reduced energy costs which seem to be the initial quantifiable measure of success and the measure has been different with each customer. Our case studies exemplify this.

Q? What are the life time operating cost benefits?

A! Life time costs are far superior to other forms of lighting and this makes a simple life time choice in favour of the induction lamp Q? Will I reduce my maintenance and operating costs? Can you give some broad based examples?

Q? There is longevity of operational life time but what other benefits accrue?

A! There are many other operational and cost benefits that are an integral feature of The ILC low energy induction lighting solutions designs Q? How does Induction compare with LED lighting?

A! – We specialise in Induction Lighting solutions for very sound commercial reasons, but we are acutely aware of, and do use, other lighting systems in our solutions. LEDs feature in our portfolio and in many cases are a viable option and our designs take all factors into consideration. However, our experiences to date favour Induction lighting to ensure a robust, cost effective solution, when payback periods are the crucial factor.

Q? Does Induction compare favourably to SON, Metal Halide?

A! The ILC and in instances with our preferred installers, provide low energy lighting solutions that reduce energy costs and carbon emissions, and at all times must be demonstrably cost-effective when compared to traditional Metal Halide and High Pressure Sodium (SON) lamps and luminaires.

Induction lamps are the preferred option Q? The Induction luminaire is more costly than traditional lighting systems. Why pay more?

A! Induction is the Future of Lighting for cost saving, energy and carbon reduction and represents a less costly solution when considering life time operating costs.

Q? Is there an easy retro-fit option?

A! In many cases we can offer an easy retro fit option, however, when this is not appropriate we find that a point for point luminaire replacement is practical and cost effective.

Q? Where do you see the market growth for Induction Lighting?

A! A broad range of interior and exterior applications can benefit from induction lighting Q? What are the implications of light switching and re-strike?

A The HF operation makes the Induction lamp imminently suited for use with motion detectors and / or Lux detection.

Q? Can you compare the energy conversion efficiency (Lumens/W) of the lamps?

A YES – Induction has a high energy conversion efficiency (efficacy) and compares well with other new lamp light technologies Q? How do I know which lamp size I need?

A Induction lamps are very efficient and require much less power to deliver the same or more and a brighter light. Our designs will ensure the correct choice and number of lamps for a particular situation. There are some broad brush “rule of thumb” indicators.

Q? Have you an option that I can use with my CCTV cameras?

A YES – the Induction lamp has a Colour Rendering Index (CRI) value around 85Ra and is highly suited lighting to use alongside CCTV cameras.

Q? Is there mercury in the Induction lamp? And if so is it harmful to the environment?

A YES – but it is not liquid mercury that is harmful to the environment it is a solid amalgam and is relatively harmless and meets the RoHS standards for hazardous substances, and is easily disposed of at end of life.

Q? Can running an Induction lamp interfere with computers or any other electronic device or telecommunication equipment?

A: No. The system complies with FCC, UL, and CE regulations with non-interference under normal circumstances. The regulations are in place to protect navigation and radio communications and the system will not interfere with portable or cellular/mobile phones.

Q? How do ambient temperatures effect the running of the lamps?

A! The Induction lamp has a working range from -25OC to +40oC without impedance to performance Q? Are there any extraneous effects working at the extremes of the temperature range?

A: Working at the lower end of the working temperature range can effect the time to start. Laboratory tests at -40 degrees have shown a time to full brightness of around 30 seconds to 1minute.

Q? Is the Induction lamp dimmable?

A! NO the Induction lamp is not dimmable Q? Can induction be used alongside a motion and/or Lux detector?

A! We have a number of case studies where the 50% lighting energy savings from the Induction lamp have been improved additionally by in excess of 30% by using detectors a total saving of > 80%.

Q? Are your Induction luminaires resistant to vibrations?

A! YES - The fact that ILC Induction lamps have no electrodes make them more reliable in high-vibration and gusty applications. The ILC Induction lamp system has proven its durability in bridges, tunnels, and signage applications.

Q? Does the light emitted fade or damage materials?

A .The damage factor for materials is rated low and ILC Induction lamps can generally be used in open luminaires without any front glass.

Q? During service can individual components be replaced?

A YES – but the ILC lamps and ballasts are almost always supplied as a lamp/ballast pair, even for re-lamping

Q? There is lots of talk about Scotopic and Photopic – what’s this all mean?

A! Scotopic light is the light available to the human eye and is far greater than the Photopic light recorded by a light meter. This is used to great advantage in our photometric designs and lighting solutions, providing brighter light whilst reducing costs Q? What is the difference between Photopic and Scotopic light output from lamps?

A! Early lighting technology measured light outputs “lumen outputs” using a light meter which only reads a limited part of the spectrum and this provided a “photopic” measure of the light output. However, the eye, assesses a much broader part of the spectrum and “reads” a much higher “lumen output” than a simple meter. This is the “Scotopic” measure of light.

Q? Is the Scotopic effect advantageous to Induction lamps?

A YES – Research has shown that the light emitted by an induction lamp has a higher Photopic to Scotopic (P/S) ratio than other lighting technology outputs, thus further enhancing the benefits of Induction lighting relative to other technologies INDUCTION BULBS Q? Do you have a range of self ballasted Induction Bulbs ?

A; YES, We offer HF Induction bulbs of 20W, 30W, and 40W with E27 screw fitting, and also an E40 / E27 end cap converter.

Q? What light output do they provide?

A! The light outputs vary and are summarised as:•

20W provides 1258 lumens equivalent to a traditional 100W lamp

•

30W provides 2260 lumens equivalent to a traditional 150W lamp

•

40W provides 2472 lumens equivalent to a traditional 200W lamp

Q? So, using the Induction bulb gives significant energy cost savings?

A! Most certainly – energy and carbon costs savings of 80% can be realised.

Q? Does the self ballasted Induction bulb have an EMC certification?

A: YES. Our agreement with our factory partners in China providers us with Induction bulbs that are EMC certified. This is crucial to avoid interference with radio and other similar wave formats.

Q? What is the life expectancy of the Induction Bulb?

A! Our Induction bulbs have a warranty of 2 years and an expected operating life of 60,000 hours

Q? Do the light levels fall off with use?

A! Yes, as do all lighting systems BUT the induction lumen depreciation falls no more than 10% over the first 2000 hours (c 250 days at 8 hours per day), far out performing traditional lamps.

Q? Do the Induction bulbs come in different light colours?

A! YES. The default colour is 6000 Kelvin (daylight), but with special order, can be provided over the range 2,700 to 7000 Kelvin.

Q? Can you give some examples of the applications for Induction Bulbs?

A! YES; our recent commercial success was the use in an innovative design for car parks and passage ways in aggressive environments.

Q? Can you have bulbs with even higher wattages?

A! Yes but these would not be self ballasted and would need a separate ballast Q? Can the induction bulb be provided in a variety of colours?

A! Yes – the bulbs can be in any colour STREET LIGHTS Q? Do you have a range of street lights?

A! YES. We can provide both LED and Induction street lights but feature just 3 of the more popular induction designs in our catalogue. Through our partnership with our factory in China we can provide the majority of designs now on the market.

Q? Do they have a range of wattages?

A! YES. Our wattages range from 60W to 200W for our single lamp designs whilst our double bulb option can increase this to 330W.

Q? Is there a rule of thumb to describe the effectiveness of the Induction Street Light?

A! YES but it is important always to carry out a photometric design using our IES files.

In round terms, and as an example using a 200W street light, the following is a guide to operational usage:•

Lamp pole 8 metres gives 43 lux at ground with a 15m x 13 m light spread

•

Lamp pole 10 metres gives 22 lux at ground with a 22m x 19m light spread

•

Lamp pole 12 metres gives 12 lux at ground with a 22m x 20m spread

Q? Do you have the street light fittings IES files and also the UnMetered Supply (UMS) Charge Code certifications?

A! The IES files are available on request for each of the street light fittings.

The results from our application for the appropriate Charge Codes are scheduled for late 2013.

Q? Can you supply an Induction Street light with a dimmable option?

A! At the present time it is not possible to make a dimmable ballast as they are simply unstable and overheat!

Q? Are your street light fittings fully accredited?

A! YES; all our fittings are CE, RoHS, and EMC accredited and are designed to be IP65 rated.

Q? What warranty do you offer on the street light fitting?

A! The fitting benefits from a 2 year warranty inclusive of lamp and ballast with an expected life time of 60,000 operating hours.

Q? Is the light output suited to security applications and CCTV cameras?

A! Yes the colour rendering index (CRI) is rated Ra>80 which is ideal for CCTV cameras and clear, clean, crisp images.

Q? Do you have a broad based comparison of the various street light options?
