Newsletter August 2011 Alliance for the Defense of Public Social Services System July 2011 - General Council of Social Work has launched a new action Alliance for the Defense of Public Social Services System – a network composed of representatives from different institutions and social entities: unions, third sector, universities,... such as a large number of stakeholders, to reconcile ideas, thoughts, activities, and to reflect on its current situation of social services as Fourth Pillar of Social Welfare in Spain, and to continue the consolidation and development of objectives like: recognizing the subjective social rights of citizens, that replay to their needs and problems or provide a quality response to the Care practices and policies.. The Alliance has developed a document or manifesto, which brings together the contributions for strengthening Social Services System. National Social Work Award 2012 June 2011 - On June 20th General Council of Social Work presented the award and recognition at the Congress of Deputies to six social workers and deputies who helped in the drafting of the Law on the Promotion of Personal Autonomy and Care for Dependent Persons. The ceremony took place in Clara Campoamor room, one of our most important political advocate for women's rights and universal suffrage main driver in Spain, achieved in 1931. Among those attending were politicians, professional associations’ presidents, representatives of institutions, NGOs and unions, universities and many social work colleagues.

First Technique Working Day on Social Intervention with Homeless June 2011 – General Council of Social Work was the entity selected by the Ministry of Health, Social Policy and Equality to manage this Working Day. It


Newsletter August 2011 was free and was directed preferentially to social professionals who work with homeless people in public administrations, NGOs and social entities. The seminar was aimed to provide a space of relationship and cooperation, exchange and discussion of experiences between professionals, and provide knowledge, skills and tools in health and social intervention with homeless. Collaboration Agreement between the Spanish Association of Social Work and Health and the General Council of Social Work Mayo 2011 –The President of the General Council of social Work, Ana Lima, signed a collaboration agreement with Agustina Hervas, President of the Spanish Association of Social Work and Health. The main objective of the agreement between both entities is to work for developing joint action establishing a continuous coordination and exchange of information. The actions are focused on improving the quality of professional practice and to ensure a real knowledge of the current situations of social workers in the field of health. Both entities have also launched an initiative to seek support from different social agents to obtain the recognition of the health social work in the Health Sciences.

The General Council of Social Work joins United Nation Global Compact Marzo 2011 – In March 2011 the General Social Work Council has joined the United Nations Global Compact, in order to support and promote the ten


Newsletter August 2011 principles on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption among its employees. Spanish Association of the Global Compact (ASEPAM), now known as "Spanish Network of UN Global Compact," was created in November 2004. The Spanish network becomes one of the first global platform most active of these features at this time. Today they are more than 1,000 entities that have signed the Compact in Spain. The Royal Board on Disability names to Ana Lima, Advisor of its Council. December 2010 - On December 14th, Ana Lima was named advisor to the Board of the Royal Board on Disability and attended December 15th to plenary held at the Palacio de la Zarzuela, where Her Majesty the Queen Sofia, Honorary President of the Royal Board on Disability, welcomed her. The Royal Board on Disability (Real Patronato sobre Discapacidad) is a public institution of the Ministry of Health, Social Policy and Equality. Its mission is to encourage prevention of impairments, rehabilitation and social integration of persons with disabilities, and to facilitate, in these fields, collaboration among entities, associations and private sector. Besides, it aims to provide support to specialists and organizations through studies, research, documentation and training. The RBD is composed by representatives of the Ministries involved in disability issues and regional governments. Organizations representing disabled persons and their families, scientific institutions and experts, also take part in this institution.
