@HUSKYHEADLINE
Senior Dedication: Farewell from Mrs. Kelley Photos courtesy of Lifetouch This year brought a lot of changes to The Husky Headline. Design was experiemented with, you increased our online presence by covering more stories for the website and social media, created a podcast, and welcomed a new adviser. I want to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for welcoming me, and letting me learn right alongside you this year. Taking on a program that was already so established was intimidating, but you all immediately made me feel right at home. You should be proud of what you have accomplished this year, and I can’t wait to see what all of you continue to accomplish on your next ventures. Tori, you were in my room so much this year, I can’t imagine you not being in it anymore. The time you put in to make sure we were putting together a quality magazine is what made this year successful. You have been such an asset to this staff, and I know that everyone was made into stronger journalists by having you as one of our Editors in Chief. Good luck at UVA! Kaitlyn, you have such a strong drive to do great journalism. You ask the tough questions and seek out the stories that need to be told. You aren’t afraid to try new things, and frequently pushed yourself outside your comfort zone this year. You were a strong mentor to all of the new staffers and could constantly be counted on. You should be very proud of your work as an Editor in Chief this year. Good luck at GMU! Savannah, you always brought so much laughter and positivity to the room. I loved your excitement about all things - especially the CAPS. It’s that enthusiasm that makes you such a strong writer and journalist. I am going to miss our conversations, but I hope you will keep in touch! Good luck at JMU! Maria, your strong writing,
DOLHAN MOHAMMADI

commitment, organization, and design sense allowed us to create quality newsmagazines all year. You stepped up this year as an Assistant Editor in Chief, and in that role you kept us all on task and made sure we were putting out our best content. Your work as Producer for the podcast allowed us to try something new, and do it in way that should make all of you who worked on it proud! Good luck at UVA! Courtland, you were so dependable all year. As both an Assitant Editor in Chief and a writer, everything you did was impressive. Because of you, the podcast was strong and brought new attention to the great work that our staff is doing. Thank you for keeping the boys on task and putting in all of the time that made it so well-recieved. Good luck at Tech! Brady, you aren’t just a writer, you are an artist, and the future is your canvas, so I do not worry about you because you have the power to create and make your life what you desire. You have such big dreams that I know are going to continue to fuel you. I know that you will go a long way! Good luck at NOVA! Dolhan, I have been so impressed by you. You have not only overcome language barriers to write for us, but you have excelled all year. You
have become such a strong writer. I have no doubt that you will continue to succeed at everything you do because your drive is unparalleled. Good luck at NOVA! Chandler, while it wasn’t always easy getting you to find a story to write about, I never worried because I always knew that whatever you brought to us would be excellent. Your humor always kept me on my toes and always made me look forward to class. You brought that same wit and intelligence to the podcast, and made it something powerful. You have a natural talent, and I know you will do great things. Good luck at Guilford!
Sully, I think you found your niche this year with the podcast. I know I will be hearing your name again one day on the radio or even television. Thank you for taking the leap to try something new; you truly made it one of a kind and have set the precedent for the years to come. Good luck at Tennessee! This year of changes is sure to continue into next year as we lose 9 of you, but I am not worried because you all have created such a strong program that the groundwork is already set. Good luck to all of you, and I hope that you all will come back to visit room 400 again!

“GRADUATING” TEACHERS Mr. William Hollingsworth- Math (Going to Freedom) “I am most excited about the opportunity to teach Computer Math and Computer Science. Something I am sad about - I have a lot of Freshman this year, and I regret that I will not be able to see them grow during the rest of their time at Tuscarora.” Mr. Daniel Kim- AP Econ and DE Government (Opening Independence High School) “What I am most excited about are the new challenges that are going to come with opening a new school and the continued opportunity to grow as a teacher. What I am most sad about is leaving the Social Studies department and all of the wonderful staff and students that I have met over the past 6 years.”
Mr. Justin Martin - Assistant Principal (Accepted new position at the Admin Building) “I am most excited to be working in a new position that will afford me the opportunity to work with schools at a variety of grade levels. I am excited to learn a new job. Something I have always enjoyed is taking on new challenges and the learning that accompanies those challenges.”
Mr. Paul Grinups - Assistant Athletic Director (Opening Independence High School) “Miss- The people that I have built relationships here-especially the coaches and athletes that I got to work with everyday. Excited-Another chance to help start a new school and new wrestling program. I am excited to get back in the classroom/mat room to impact kids everday.” Dr. Ben Kagan - Biology (Opening Independence High School) “I will definitely miss the students and my fellow science teachers the most. I opened the school 9 years ago and even though the science department has changed a lot, I have always enjoyed the different teaching styles we really brought to the table over the years.” Mr. Brian Fletcher - PE (Moving to Evergreen Mills & Countryside Elementary) “I am looking forward to being a positive male role model since there aren’t a lot of male teachers at that level.”

TRENDS OF THE PAST FOUR YEARS
Star Wars made its long-awaited return to the big screen in 2015, with The Force Awakens releasing over a decade after the last installment in the franchise. Fans around the world flocked to theaters, and the movie grossed over 2 billion dollars.
Water bottle flipping was a trend that began in 2016, and nobody could seem to get enough of it. While this trend may have died out though, Apple’s AirPods released the same year and unlike most of 2016’s other crazes, AirPods have managed to maintained its popularity. 2017 gave birth to one what was arguably one of the biggest video games of all time: Fortnite. This free-to-play game has over 250 million registered accounts, and was undoubtedly a highlight of 2017.
2018 was a great year for Marvel movies, with both Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War releasing in the same year. Black Panther went on to win 3 Academy Awards, and Infinity War paved the way for a 2019 sequel: Avengers: Endgame.
