4 cups diced 2-day-old multigrain bread, cut into 1/2 inch cubes 1 small onion, peeled and roughly chopped 1 medium celery stalk, roughly chopped 1 medium carrot, peeled and roughly chopped 1 clove garlic 1 tbsp olive oil 1 tsp poultry seasoning 1/2 cup dried cranberries 4 large eggs 1 tsp Dijon mustard 3/4 tsp fine salt 1/4 tsp ground black pepper 1 cup chicken stock 1 1/2 cups cooked turkey, cut into 1/2 inch cubes 1 1/2 cups grated Cheddar cheese

DIRECTIONS STEP ONE Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Line a muffin tin with extra-large paper liners. If your bread feels soft (still fresh), spread cubes onto a baking tray and place in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes to dry them out. Cool bread before using. STEP TWO Pulse onion, celery, carrot and garlic in a food processor until finely chopped, but not liquefied. Heat a sauté pan over medium heat and add oil. Add vegetables and cook until softened and any liquid evaporates, about 5 minutes. The gas cooktop on the LG ProBake Convection range is great for this, as the quick heat and fine-tuned temperature controls ensure that the onions won’t over-brown or stick, creating the flavour base for the “stuffing”. Stir in poultry seasoning and cranberries and stir 1 minute more. Set aside to cool. STEP THREE Whisk eggs with mustard, salt and pepper in a large mixing bowl; then whisk in stock. Add bread cubes and toss well to coat. Let sit for 5 minutes, then stir in turkey, cheese and veggies, tossing well. STEP FOUR Spoon this mixture into a muffin tin and bake for about 45 minutes, until the top of a “buddy” springs back when pressed. The LG ProBake Convection range ensures that these “buddies” bake quickly and brown nicely on top, while cooking easily all the way through. STEP FIVE Let the “buddies” cool in the muffin tin for 5 minutes before removing. Once cooled, they can be refrigerated or frozen, and reheated or enjoyed at room temperature. ◆

LAUNDRY ROOM A GREAT LAUNDRY ROOM SHOULD BE A SMARTLY DESIGNED SPACE THAT LETS YOU GET LAUNDRY DONE HASSLE-FREE. While it would be ideal to have unlimited square footage to work with, sometimes you just have to get creative with your current space. By following a few easy and clever tips, you can make your laundry room both an aesthetically pleasing and functional space. Keep reading to find out how to make your laundry room work for you. MAKE USE OF VERTICAL SPACE WITH A STACK ABLE L AUNDRY SET-UP Is your laundry room smaller? You can still get a lot done in it with a stacked laundry set-up. Not only do they save plenty of space, they’re also more energy efficient. When installing, keep in mind to alway stack your dryer on top as they’re lighter. Washing machines are heavy, and when they’re filled with water, they tend to vibrate more and could create a hazard. If searching for a larger design, the LG wash tower has innovation that allows you to reach the console without using a step stool. You can also look for 24” luxury washer and dryer models to accommodate smaller spaces. INSTALL A HANGING ROD TO DRY YOUR CLOTHES Drying racks are practical, but they can get in the way and take up floor space. To maximize the space in your

This practical addition makes use of unused space without being obstructive. By placing storage baskets on the peg wall, commonly used items like clothes pins and wool dryer balls are always easily accessible.

MA XIMIZE THE SPACE BET WEEN YOUR LUXURY WASHER AND DRYER A slim pull-out storage cart that fits in between your luxury washer and dryer can store more than you might think. These types of carts usually have at least three tiers of shelves so you can store frequently used items like detergent, soap and cleaning supplies no problem. Look for a cart that has wheels so that you can pull it out easily and push it back in place when it’s not in use. Since they’re slim and portable, these carts can also be placed elsewhere in your laundry room if you ever decide to change the layout. ELIMINATE VISUAL CLUT TER If you’re not a fan of having plastic jugs of laundry detergent scattered about, then using glass dispensers could be a great option. With glass dispensers, you can label them and immediately see when you need to refill them. They also look more polished and can fit into just about any laundry room design. If you’re using liquid detergent, be sure to dilute it a little bit so that it flows properly through the spigot. There are also laundry appliances that have soap dispensers built in internally, so this would help avoid messy bottles. KEEP YOUR ESSENTIALS WITHIN ARM’S REACH With an over-the-door storage organizer, everything you need is always within reach. This tip is especially useful for smaller laundry rooms. These organizers may have several individual pockets or a few large pockets. There’s no need to worry about hardware or installation – all you have to do is hang it over your door.

FOR YOUR BATHROOM Behind every great bathroom, is an even greater bathtub. The tub is the showpiece of the room, and for good reason. The room is named after this fabulous fixture, after all. As a designer, I am asked to assist design many bathrooms and I know the bathtub can make or break a bathroom design, so I encourage clients to give it the consideration it deserves - not to mention a little extra budget, if possible. When shopping for a new bathtub, style and comfort are equally important. In other words, great bathrooms can’t compromise on either. Some sleek, sculptural soaker tubs border on art, and come in a seemingly endless array of shapes, sizes, finishes and materials. Once you identify a look that you love, be sure to sit back (literally!) and give some thought to the tub’s shape and size, and how these suit your shape and size. Sit inside it, and get a good feel for the tub’s curves, height and interior angles. For this reason, I recommend buying a new bathtub in person, versus online.

Look for vanities boasting distinctive features, be it a unique washbasin, a splashy faucet or a striking base, to give your bathroom a fashionable yet functional edge.

Of course, function also plays an important role when selecting the right bathroom vanity. Is this an ensuite for two, a private bathroom or a powder room? Will you’ll be using this area for grooming or to apply makeup? Some other things to take into account include: door swing, traffic flow, plumbing, and location of other fixtures, like the toilet and tub. These will affect the vanity styles and specs best suited to you. When browsing bathtubs and vanities, shop with both in mind. Remember that the most impactful statements are made by unified styles. You don’t necessarily have to select matching fixtures, or even pieces from the same brand. The key is to ensure your selections have a common aesthetic, be it traditional, modern, colour or otherwise. The result will be a harmonious bathroom, where all the main elements sing the same tune. ◆

1 / IS MY PROJECT BIG ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO WORK WITH A DESIGNER? I get this question a lot, and the truth is that it really depends on the scope of your project and what you hope to achieve. Most designers who have a proven track record of success have a process that helps guide their clients through the creative process. For the most part, top designers consider whether or not you want them to take a holistic look at your space to design it. The reason for this is because it’s very difficult for a designer to shift the tone of your space if you just want to replace your rug or a lamp. We want to be able to help you achieve your design goals, so ensuring we’re all set-up for success from the beginning is very important.


As someone who is a natural visual communicator, any time I get to start a new project (whether for a client or myself), I get excited as I start to marvel at all the endless possibilities. This is one of my favourite parts of the design process. However, it only recently dawned on me that not all folks feel this way when embarking on a new creative journey. In fact, from my conversations with my clients, this can be one of the most daunting experiences for a homeowner. Many of them have no idea where they are in the actual process, or where to start.


This is another very common question. Another important piece to differentiate is the difference between any interior design work (structural, renovations...remodel) vs interior decor work (refreshing furniture, selecting drapery, furniture planning and styling a room). A baseline I usually give most clients is to take an empty room (white walls, blank canvas) and to bring it from 0 to 100, it’s on average around $15,000 per room with an additional 30% in design fees. This is a reasonable budget usually allowing for some custom pieces as well as more cost effective retail pieces. Obviously this number will scale up or down depending on whether or not you have existing items you’d like to keep, and if you want to do any extensive upgrades that aren’t just surface level.

3 / HOW DO INTERIOR DESIGNERS BILL? Every designer or studio bills differently. Some designers have an hourly rate that they keep track of and progress bills throughout the process. Usually they take a retainer payment (a deposit) up front that is applied to your last invoice. Some use a flat mark-up percentage (usually more common in the contracting world) of your overall project budget. Other designers use a flat fee billing structure where the scope of your project is defined up front, and they stick to an approved design fee (assuming that the scope doesn’t change). It’s also common for designers to use a combination of these three methods as well. It’s extremely important to understand the billing structure up front, so make sure you ask and get a thorough understanding of how your designer works. ▹




4 / DO I NEED TO KNOW MY ST YLE OR KNOW WHAT I WANT BEFORE WORKING WITH A DESIGNER? Absolutely not! The entire point of working with a designer is to help you fine tune your ideas and execute them. A good designer will be able to facilitate a fun briefing session where they can figure out what you want. Most people who aren’t in the design industry don’t use terms like “mid-century modern or modern coastal transitional”, so it can be a bit of a foreign world. A healthy working relationship with your designer is collaborative, it’s our job to help take you to places you didn’t know you could go, while still respecting who you are and reflecting your overall essence.

5 / WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR WHEN HIRING THE RIGHT DESIGNER FOR ME? THERE ARE 3 MAIN FACTORS TO CONSIDER: • Ensure the overall method in which the designer operates is inline with your own values. Is there transparency? Do you understand the fee structure? Does their contract make sense and provide protection for both you and the designer? • BUDGET & TIMELINE: At the end of the day you have to make sure that working with the designer is not going to prevent you being able to actually buy furniture or do the work. If your designer’s fees are taking up more than 50% of your budget, then it may not be the most mutually beneficial relationship. You also want to ensure there are clear expectations on delivery and completion dates. • OVERALL FIT & VIBE: Hiring a designer is like committing to a 3-6 month relationship. We’ll get really personal, we may be literally in your bed, going through your sheets and will see you at your best and worst. You won’t always have enough time to clean when we pay a visit so you want to make sure you feel very comfortable with your designer.
