Michele Mahl
Michele, thank you for your time today, and we are thrilled to connect with you. Could you kindly provide a brief overview of your background and professional journey?
Originally from Jericho, New York, I embarked on my real estate and capital markets career with a 16-year tenure at Eastdil Secured, a well-known real estate investment banking firm. Transitioning to Newmark & Co. in 2018 and later to Jones Lang LaSalle, I have played a key role in the successful completion of significant hotel transactions in the U.S., amounting to over $65 billion in property sales, debt placements, and advisory services. Notable deals include the Waldorf Astoria New York, Four Seasons Washington D.C., Montage Laguna Beach, The Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott Grande Lakes Resort in Orlando, the W Hotel Union Square New York, and The London NYC. In addition to my professional achievements, I am actively involved with various organizations that champion causes I deeply care about. Since relocating full-time to the Hamptons, I have been engaged with UJA, the newly established Israeli Children’s Fund, and local initiatives like the Southampton Animal Shelter and ARF.
Your exceptional background in luxury commercial hospitality has been remarkably successful. Can the principles and practices from the commercial real estate sector be applied laterally to residential settings?
There are overlapping skill sets that are highly beneficial for navigating the upscale residential market of the Hamptons. These skills involve understanding market dynamics, client preferences, and negotiation strategies. Recognizing market trends and opportunities is essential in both commercial and residential real estate, allowing me to offer informed guidance and strategic advice to my residential clients .Drawing from experience in advising on significant hotel transactions, I view each property as an investment opportunity. This holistic perspective enables me to provide clients with insights into both the emotional and financial aspects of homeownership, tailoring guidance to their individual needs and investment goals. Additionally, my expertise in negotiating complex commercial deals has honed strong negotiation skills that are equally effective in the residential market. Whether securing favorable terms or navigating intricate deal structures, I leverage these skills to advocate for my clients' best interests.
The Hamptons is known for its stunning and luxurious setting, making it a highly desired geographic location. What drew you to choose the Hamptons when transitioning from commercial to residential properties? Having grown up visiting the Hamptons, I recognized its charm and reputation as an exclusive hub for luxury living. The Hamptons market stood out to me for its combination of exclusivity, natural beauty, and investment prospects that set it apart from other locations. With my real estate expertise, I saw the Hamptons as a compelling investment opportunity offering potential returns higher than the general market. The limited land availability and the concentration of wealth in this exclusive area drive strong demand for Hamptons real estate, leading to long-term value growth. During the COVID period, residing in my Water Mill home and enjoying the shift from New York City, it felt natural to venture into residential real estate in the Hamptons.
Given your impressive background and expertise, could you provide advice to those looking to join the real estate sector?
Thank you for your kind words. To launch a real estate career, consider seeking guidance from seasoned professionals for mentorship and exposure to fresh prospects. Acquire hands-on experience, improve negotiation and communication abilities, and understand the legal and zoning components of the industry.
Purchasing a new home is an exciting venture with many factors to consider. For those embarking on the journey of finding a new home in the area, here are some tips and advice to aid you in the process. Clearly define your priorities and collaborate closely with a knowledgeable real estate agent for a smooth transaction. Begin by outlining your needs, desires, and deal-breakers, while researching local market prices and neighborhood information. It's crucial to get pre-approved for a mortgage to understand your purchasing capacity and set your budget. Prior to finalizing the purchase, conduct thorough inspections to ensure everything meets your expectations. By following these steps, you can confidently and knowledgeably navigate the process of buying a new home.
As a year-round resident of the Hamptons, what brings you the most joy about living there and how do you spend your free time? Living in the Hamptons as a year-round resident is truly delightful due to its peaceful atmosphere and the sense of community, combined with its elegance, making it a fantastic place to call home. During my spare time, I take pleasure in strolling around the towns to support local businesses, tending to my garden, participating in local charity events, dining at the area's gourmet restaurants, and getting involved in community projects.

What inspired the creation of The Hamptons Edit Magazine?
For years, I've nurtured a strong ambition to launch my own magazine. Despite juggling career commitments, educational pursuits, fitness goals, and daily responsibilities, I've never let self-doubt hold me back. I firmly believe that with dedication, persistence, and hard work, any goal is attainable. In early 2024, a profound sense of purpose and inspiration drove me to pursue this dream. While exploring opportunities in the editorial field, I realized that I had the ability to turn this vision into reality independently, without depending on external factors. Believe me, it has been a lot of work, but the journey has been fulfilling and worthwhile.
You mentioned launching a magazine has been a dream of yours for years, why a Hamptons magaazine?
I have fond memories of visiting the Hamptons and Montauk during my childhood with my mom, long into adulthood with my husband and these places have always had a special place in my heart.
The charm of small towns and villages has always captivated me. I've been fascinated by the luxurious lifestyle, glamour, and all its offerings. The boutiques, eateries, and the beach hold a special place in my heart, evoking memories of childhood summers spent out east. Although it may be a personal preference, I believe the Hamptons embody the ideal blend of luxury and coastal chic. This inspired me to create a publication celebrating my favorite lifelong destination.
How has your career and blog, The Long Island Blonde, influenced the development of the magazine?
Embarking on my educational path at Nassau to earn my A.A.S., followed by obtaining my B.S. degree from The Fashion Institute of Technology, and completing a graduate certification in Business Communication from Harvard, provided me with valuable tools for success.
Photog@aphed by AlexiF Co@nachio
Having a well-established career in Luxury Fashion & Finance, I launched The Long Island Blonde platform just before the pandemic hit. This platform served as a means to connect with others during challenging and uncertain times.
My educational background and professional journey have provided a strong foundation for the business aspect. Through my blog, I have built connections and seized opportunities that contributed to the success of the magazine.
Growing up in a single-parent household after losing my father at a young age and my brother later on, we didn't have wealth, but my mother's hard work instilled in me the value of perseverance. I learned that success comes from dedication and effort.
I was blessed to be raised in a devout Catholic household, my faith and trust in God have guided me on this path.
I believe your faith is everything no matter what God you believe in and whatever religion you practice. Every religion is beautiful and being spiritual leads a fulfilling life. Always turn to that and it will guide you.
“I dedicated myself to bringing it to life, working late nights, early mornings, designing, writing, editing, and networking. I did whatever it took to see it through. “
Did you ever have a moment in your journey where you thought, "Oh my gosh, this is really happening"?
Yes, I remember being at home, contemplating, praying, and focusing on not letting another summer pass without making my dream a reality. That's when the magazines name The Hamptons Edit came to mind.
From that moment on, I dedicated myself to bringing it to life, working late nights, early mornings, designing, writing, editing, and networking. I did whatever it took to see it through.
The most exciting and transformative moment occurred when I began attending events as "press." The opportunities and experiences that followed were invaluable and genuinely once-in-a-lifetime.
When I am covering the events, I often find myself thinking, "I can't believe this is actually happening."
Do you have any tips for individuals striving to pursue their dreams and passions?
I strongly believe in seizing the current moment and taking immediate action.
Life is a valuable gift, and each of us possesses unique God given talents that we should actively pursue. The unexpected loss of my father at 47 when I was 10, and my brother at 33 when I was 23, emphasized the importance of making the most of each day. I experienced a health scare in mid-June of this year, at the age of 33, it served as a clear reminder that tomorrow is uncertain. If I hadn't gotten to the hospital when I did because of my husband who saved my life, I might not be here today sharing this story with you.
If you dedicate yourself to hard work, success will inevitably come your way. I strongly believe that the universe supports those who are taking the necessary steps to achieve their goals. Never give up!
One last thing I will leave with you which is a value that I was raised on. In a world filled with negativity, treating others with respect is crucial. Remember, our differences are what make us unique and that is beautiful. You never know what struggles someone may be facing. However, if someone is unkind towards you, you have the right to step away from the situation gracefully. Surround yourself with positivity and people who lift you up and remove anyone who hinders your inner peace and success. Stay strong, set healthy boundaries especially in business.
Your love for the Hamptons is quite evident. What are some of your favorite things to do while out east?
Oh my goodness, there are so many things I truly love.
Shopping in Southampton is a delight with its fabulous stores. I am a huge fan of the LUNCH Lobster Roll there, and in Amagansett.
If we venture to Sag Harbor, Baron’s Cove is a top choice. The Pridwin on Shelter Island offers truly breathtaking views.
Moving towards East Hampton, nothing beats Aperitivo at The Baker House or relaxing on the porch at The Maidstone. Dining outdoors at Sant Ambroeus is simply delightful. Also, no trip to Montauk is complete without a meal at Gosman’s Top Deck.
Gurney’s holds a special place as a favorite destination as well.
Lastly, savoring a crisp glass of wine at Wölffer perfectly captures the essence of summer. I truly love the Hamptons not only in the summer but year-round. To me it is the closest thing to heaven on earth.
In her leisure time, she values spending time with her husband, their cats, her mother, and attending weekly Sunday mass at her church. Cooking is a passion that she derives from her favorite chef, Ina Garten. Furthermore, she delights in decorating, reading, and beach visits. Throughout the year, Hannah enjoys exploring the east end.

Hamptons Beauty Bar provides mobile beauty services including hair, makeup, nails, and esthetician treatments.
For those who prefer a salon visit, their physical location is located at 497 West Montauk Highway, East Quogue, NY.
We are thrilled to meet you, Nikki! To start off, could you please tell us a bit about yourself and where you're from?
In the hair and makeup industry for over a decade, I founded my initial company, Sincerely Something Borrowed, in 2019. The company provides on-site hair and makeup services for weddings in NY, NJ, CT, and various destination events. Due to high demand beyond weddings, expansion was necessary. This led to the establishment of a subsidiary, Hamptons Beauty Bar, offering personal care services in the Hamptons, Manhattan, and Greenwich CT for a wide array of events and occasions.
Having obtained a NYS Cosmetology License in 2013, I honed my skills at Warren-Tricomi Salon and trained with industry leaders like Wella Hair, Goldwell, and many more. My early career focused on event hairstyling, later transitioning to makeup. Eventually, I settled in East Quogue, within the Hamptons.
Over the years, I have collaborated with celebrities and personalities such as Mariska Hargitay, Joy Mangano, and others, working on projects featured in prestigious publications like Forbes and The New York Times. Additionally, I have contributed to shows on networks like NBC, Bravo, and HBO Max. A graduate of Stony Brook University with a degree in Evolution and Ecology, I am also a certified SCUBA diver. An animal lover, I share my home with an orange cat named Munchkin, whom I adopted.

What inspired you to choose The Hamptons as the launch location for your business?
When I was younger, my parents would take us out east for summer vacations, creating lasting memories. The Hamptons hold a special place in my heart as the ultimate getaway spot, offering unique experiences. From stunning beaches and exquisite dining to vineyards and equestrian activities, there are few places that rival what the Hamptons have to offer. Working in such a picturesque area all year round is truly a privilege.
What's your preferred spot in the Hamptons?
They all have something different to offer, each one caters to a nuanced aesthetic, but I think Scuttle Hole Road is the most beautiful drive!
You have a sister company named "Sincerely Something Borrowed." Can you provide some guidance for brides on selecting a wedding glam team, such as how early to book in advance and when to schedule the trial relative to the wedding day?
If you are unsure about your wedding day hair and makeup look, it's advisable to go for a more natural appearance. Our goal is to assist brides in feeling like the best version of themselves on their special day, aiming for a heightened but authentic look. Avoid making drastic changes to your appearance on the wedding day. A general guideline is to steer clear of anything new that is not part of your usual self-care routine, such as new facial treatments or Botox, close to your wedding day. It's essential to stick to what makes you feel confident and comfortable. Your wedding day is not the time to experiment but to showcase your true beauty, which is what your partner loves and admires.
When it comes to booking, the timeline varies for each bride. Some prefer scheduling trials well in advance, while others opt for closer to the wedding date. Planning events, especially weddings, can be stressful. Therefore, booking your wedding day glam should be a delightful and enjoyable experience. Focus on relishing the process rather than the timing of your booking. Brides should schedule appointments when they feel most at ease to make the most of the experience. Your hair and makeup trial should be a moment to unwind, get pampered, and not feel overwhelmed with a busy schedule.

Admired for its agricultural heritage, award-winning vineyards, and beaches, the North Fork is truly delightful. The region's fertile farmland yields fresh produce and sustainable meats, while the Long Island Sound and Atlantic Ocean provide a variety of seafood. Claudio’s, nestled in the heart of the historic town of Greenport, serves as a focal point, complemented by vintage boutiques, antique shops, and more, making it a destination in its own right.

In the mood for a cookout this summer? The luxury waterfront hotel with 49 rooms and 16 private cottages on Shelter Island is celebrating over 60 years of their weekly Wednesday night barbecues and there's a reason it's stood the test of time as adventurous diners from all over the east end have discovered this once primarily local weekly happening taking place on the front lawn of the historic property. Guests can arrive by car and ferry from the North and South fork or by boat at one of the property's 2 docks and the experience is pure Americana. Buffet dinner is served on tables dotting the front lawn covered in red and white gingham tablecloths which afford stunning water views that are nothing short of spectacular. With delectable food, breathtaking scenery, and live entertainment, it’s no wonder why the weekly Wednesday Barbecues have become a tradition at The Pridwin. Executive Chef Todd Ruiz crafts the buffet menu, with something for everyone in the family. American fare from burgers, grilled molasses chicken, smoked prime beef brisket and pulled pork to grilled swordfish, clams and mussels mix with sides like mac & cheese and hearty salads and selections from the raw bar there is something for every taste and age. The dessert buffet is a work of art created by Executive Pastry Chef Mary Pisanelli featuring an entire table showcasing her dessert confections with three kinds of pies and cheesecake sitting next to a tiered silver tray holding her homemade peanut butter sandies, oatmeal raisin cookies, chocolate chip cookies, and brownies. There is always a decadent chocolate cake in the mix.
Catching a sunset on the lawn of The Pridwin is really something that speaks for itself but imagine sitting back in one of the white Adirondack chairs with the orange sky poking through the trees reflecting off the water that surrounds Crescent Beach. You can smell the barbecue while listening to the live music as the bonfires are lit at dusk for roasting marshmallows and smores. Wednesdays at the Pridwin Hotel is the best way to start the second half of the week!
The Pridwin BBQ runs through Wednesday, September 4th.
