DENNIS

The Dennis G34D in action

World-class cuts

LAST YEAR WAS testing for Durham CCC head groundsman Vic Demain and his team at the Emirates Riverside Stadium: they had the pressure of hosting games for the Official ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. However, they managed to rise to the challenge, and they received a number of plaudits along the way.

“We had three World Cup matches, but in addition to that we had approximately 20 days of World Cup practice sessions,” says Vic.

“When the World Cup is on TV, viewers might see a game at Lord’s one day and then the next day they will watch a game here at Durham. That’s a lot to live up to, especially with the game being viewed by a global audience.”

For that all-important matchday presentation Vic relied on the Dennis G34D, which has been designed and built following the same concept as the popular Dennis G860 cylinder mower.

It’s available in three different cutting sizes – 26”, 30” and 34” – and incorporates a large-diameter, eight-bladed cutting cylinder to cater for a wide range of uses, always leaving a precision cut.

The handlebar design makes manoeuvring easy and the wide adjustment makes it comfortable for all cutting heights.

“The G34D offers superior presentation – it’s always a pictureperfect cut,” says Vic. www.dennisuk.com

PELLENC

EASY DOES IT!

PELLENC UK HAS launched the Rasion Easy 2. The popular model was originally launched in 2016, and is now back with new key features.

For noise control, it has a silent brushless wheel motor with direct drive: noise levels stay at 91 dB at speed 3 and 93 dB at maximum power. The vibration rate is slow, at 0.7 m/s², and the single front wheel, with two locking positions, facilities stability.

The model also brings new electronic management from the IMS (insulated metallic substrate) circuit board. This allows for improved heat dissipation, absorbing power peaks during intensive mowing without reducing the blade speed. There’s also an anti-jam system, which allows reverse rotation of the blades to remove excess grass from the housing while the mower keeps running.

What’s more, ICC (intelligent cutting control) sensors will now be available as an option (not standard) on the Easy 2. This patented feature allows the mower to detect the height and density of the grass and change the engine speed accordingly. This saves power, as you don’t have to run the machine under full-load unnecessarily.

ETESIA

PEDESTRIAN POWER

WHEN IT COMES to professional pedestrian rotary mowers, Etesia has two that will step up to the job.

The PHTS3 is a single-speed, selfpropelled mower, while the PHE3 is a push variant.

Both models feature strong Xenoy cutting decks, shear washer crank protection, individual height of cut adjusters, a new 22mm handlebar design, the latest Honda GCV170 engine and both are supplied complete with 80l grass box and rear deflector as standard.

According to Etesia, the Honda GCV series of engines provide best-in-class power and torque with reliable starting and reduced noise levels, and they are easy to service and maintain. A large petrol filler cap allows you to view the fuel level while filling, while an extended oil dipstick makes filling easier, and there are a host of other features expected from a professional machine.

Both new models are capable of mowing with or without collection in all conditions, or for high-quality mulching, with the addition of a mulching plug kit accessory (PR46E). www.etesia.co.uk

INFINICUT

Greener and cleaner

A TRIO OF Infinicut electric mowers are delivering a more comfortable and effective mow at Reading FC.

According to grounds manager Adam Grantham, the 34” Fixed Head mowers offer reduced noise, handarm vibration and have lowered the club’s fuel costs. For, as well as ticking a number of environmental boxes, the mowers have also achieved a significantly improved quality of cut.

Adam says: “There’s no denying that the industry is moving towards the electric route. We have to be mindful, in a stadium environment, of the decibel levels and the way this pollutes and echoes.

“We trialled a couple of different Infinicut models before deciding that the Fixed Head machines were the best fit. They handle well, dealing with the camber and ‘shelf’ that surrounds the pitch,” he explains. The lithium battery power means quiet operation comes as standard.

TORO

EARNING ITS STRIPES

THE TORO PROSTRIPE 560 mower is designed with premier sports venues, municipalities, resorts and golf clubs in mind; combining the benefits of a precise cut and clean striped finish with the simplicity of a walk power mower.

It’s perfect for smaller areas of turf and tight areas. Key features include a two-piece ribbed roller, designed to give precise stripes without damaging the turf. Its three-speed transmission system helps it adapt to all weather and turf conditions and users can adjust the speed from 2.9kmph to 5kmph.

Cutting height can be quickly adjusted using Toro’s MatchCut technology, with seven halfincrement (3.7mm) settings. It’s also designed to increase productivity, with its 80-litre grass bag, and front fins, which lift the grass to give a clean cut and ensure efficient collection of clippings.

“The collection capabilities of the ProStripe 560 make post-game clean-up a breeze, with no divots left on the pitch,” adds Chris Cooper, product manager at Toro. “It’s a low-maintenance solution that’s easy to use with no additional operator training needed. And as an added benefit, striping can help reduce soil compaction and contribute to the health of the turf.”

An optional groomer brush attachment to help promote a healthier turf, and a finer cut by reducing lateral blade growth and removing surface debris is also available for this model.

EGO

Lithium-light work

EGO IS LAUNCHING a new 42cm self-propelled lawnmower (LM1701ESP) to add to its existing range. It’s designed to make mowing easy, with reliable collection even on slopes and difficult terrain.

In addition to the variable speed self-propelled drive system, the lawnmower has wheels with a largerthan-usual tread to give better traction. It also features adjustable handle heights and an easy-to-access battery and grass box.

Weighing just 25kg, the 42cm mower benefits from an extralarge 55-litre textile bag for grass collection and comes supplied with a 2.5Ah battery and standard charger. You can cut up to 300m2 on one single charge. It’s manufactured from a robust and easy-to-clean polymer material, which is a proven winner when it comes to collecting, mulching and rear discharge cutting.

Powered by industry leading 56-volt Arc lithium-ion technology, there are no power cables to get tangled in, and no petrol to deal with. It costs £529 with a five-year domestic warranty.

The LM1701E-SP joins last year’s 42cm LM1700E and self-propelled 47cm LM1900-SP, retailing at £479 and £599 respectively.
