POWERED BY

Powered by Collaboration This has been an incredible month for The Girls’ Lounge. I always say if we could have done it alone, we would have by now. When one voice speaks out, you can be heard. But when many voices speak together, we are unstoppable. The Girls’ Lounge continues to grow, creating more and more connections across the globe…and the power is in collaboration. We have traveled from Africa to DC and then to France. The impact has been magical. We have inspired young girls to find their voices, instilled in them the confidence to be whatever they believe they can be, ignited conversations around advancing equality in the workplace, and most importantly, created accountability to measure what matters portraying girls and women in positive ways in media and entertainment. As Katharine Hepburn says, “If you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun.” Here’s to reimagining, disrupting, transforming and activating the changes we want to see…and of course, always together.

XO, Shelley

@ WEF Africa May 11th – 12th, 2016 Kigali, Rwanda

World Economic Forum Africa The Girls’ Lounge created a destination for the female leaders at WEF Africa in Rwanda. Our memorable journey began when we spent time at Sunrise High School and Polytechnic Vocational Girls School, where we mentored over 500 high school girls and inspired them with confidence and empowered them with leadership coaching. We invited the girls to join us in The Girls’ Lounge at The World Economic Forum, where we discussed fostering female empowerment, leadership and the power of partnerships.

“Fostering meaningful, relevant and sustainable participation of Africa’s women in growth sectors”

@ United State of Women June 14th, 2016 Washington, D.C.

If You Can See Her, You Can Be Her In Collaboration With ANA/AFE The Girls’ Lounge was invited to participate in the United State of Women Summit as a destination for women working together to create change. Our theme was all about celebrating and admiring women of the past, present and future - a nod to the idea that if you can see her, you can be her. We unveiled our collaboration with ANA AFE and the #SeeHer campaign, a new initiative to accurately portray all women and girls in media - in the hopes that by 2020, women are able to see themselves reflected in the media as they truly are.

“This is what a feminist looks like.”

– President Obama speaking at The United #StateofWomen Summit
