The Dunham School was founded in 1981 with one mission—to educate the mind and the heart for Christ. Today, that mission continues to guide us as we plan for the future.

The Capital Building & Campus Improvement Fund

Contributions to this fund will assist us in implementing Phase I of our 15-year campus master plan, which will allow for the best use of our physical plant and ensure that our facilities reflect the excellence of our academic program.

GOAL: $4,500,000

Donations Benefit:

✔ upgrades to the Lower School Playground.

✔ the completion of Phase II of the Carpenter-Randall Science Center.

• the expansion of the Rollins Family Dining Hall and refurbishment of Chapel Hall.

• the installation of artificial turf and lighting on the practice football field.

• renovations to the Dunham Stadium, including entrance, concessions, restrooms, and lighting.

The Cornerstone Fund

The greatest contribution that anyone can make is an unrestricted sacrificial gift to the Cornerstone Fund, which has been established to assist in the elimination of debt to ensure the long-term financial sustainability of The Dunham School.

GOAL: $5,500,000

Donations Benefit:

• $5.5 million in debt reduction, which cuts the school’s debt liability by half.

• an increased pace to pay off debt.

• a reduction of annual debt payments, resulting in $3,000,000 in freed yearly revenue.

• complete debt elimination in 10 years.

• an alleviation of pressure on the current operating budget.

• additional resources to be used to advance the school’s mission.

• maintaining a tuition structure that is competitive among other local private schools.

The Scholarship Endowment Fund

will allow the school to offer more merit-based scholarships and tuition assistance awards to qualifying students.

GOAL: $500,000

• current and future students.

• financial assistance and scholarship funds.

• the school’s ability to withstand fluctuations in enrollment and market demands.

• a donor’s desire to honor a person or family by naming a scholarship endowment.

The Dunham Legacy Society provides opportunities for donors to make planned gifts that will have a lasting impact on future generations of students and help secure the school’s fiscal sustainability.

The Dunham Fund

Supporting the day-to-day operations of the school is crucial to instilling educational excellence for years to come. The Dunham Fund provides annual support for our operational needs, helping to cover the cost of both the unexpected and the aspirational.

GOAL: $4,000,000*

• faculty salary increases.

• professional development opportunities.

• annual merit-based scholarships and tuition assistance awards.

• updates to classroom technology, including iPads, Smart TVs, and digital display walls.

• the expansion of the Dunham Virtual Academy.

• small campus improvements, including fencing, landscaping, drainage, and covered walkways.

• funding for unexpected or unknown expenses that occur during the school year.

Gifts to the endowment secure the long-term financial sustainability of The Dunham School, help attract and retain outstanding teachers, and further enhance the quality of education provided to current and future generations of Dunham students.

The Liz Peters Master Teacher Endowment

The Liz Peters Master Teacher Endowment was established in 2008 with a generous lead gift from Nanette Noland. The fund provides supplemental income for teachers who have demonstrated excellence in teaching and furthers the School’s efforts to attract and retain outstanding teachers. The endowment is named for the late Liz Peters, who was one of the first teachers hired at The Dunham School and truly exemplified the qualities of a master teacher.

SHARE DUNHAM SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS

The Al and Mary Gayden Jones

Share Dunham Fund

Established in 2008 by an anonymous donor, the Al and Mary Gayden Jones Share Dunham Scholarship Fund provides tuition assistance to deserving and academically capable students who could not otherwise afford a Dunham education, with preference given to children of single parents and widows in keeping with James 1:27.

The Leah Hipple McKay Academic Services Scholarship

The Leah Hipple McKay Academic Services Scholarship provides need-based financial assistance to students served by the McKay Academic Center for Excellence. The fund was established in 2017 in memory of the late Leah Hipple McKay, who was devoted to helping children on the autism spectrum learn and develop.

The Roy Carnegie Greater Baton Rouge State Fair Scholarship Fund

The Baton Rouge State Fair Foundation established the Roy Carnegie Greater Baton Rouge State Fair Scholarship in honor of Mr. Carnegie’s years of volunteer service to the fair, including his tenure on the board of directors. The fund underwrites an annual tuition grant awarded to a Dunham Upper School student who

demonstrates excellence in scholarship, leadership, and community service.

The Tensey Pricer Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Tensey Pricer Memorial Scholarship was established in 2024 to honor the life of Mr. Tensey Pricer and to acknowledge a student who demonstrates empathetic listening, selfless service, a desire to foster strong peer relationships, and a godly character that is evident to all. Like Tensey Pricer, this student exhibits the Christlike qualities of humility, compassion, and grace.

The Two Coins Scholarship

Established by Michael and Sharon Jenkins in 2010, the Two Coins Scholarship is awarded to an eighth-grade student who has demonstrated during his or her middle school years the story of the widow’s offerings as described in Mark 12:4144. The recipient of the scholarship is a student who is diligent in his or her academic work, places others before self, and is involved in extracurricular, community service, and church activities.

The Warren J. Wilson Greater Baton Rouge State Fair Scholarship Fund

The Baton Rouge State Fair Foundation established the Warren J. Wilson Greater Baton Rouge State Fair Scholarship in 2015 to honor Mr. Wilson’s 40 years of service to the fair. The annual scholarship is awarded to an upper school student who demonstrates excellence in scholarship, leadership and community service.

2021–2026 Strategic Plan Implementation

The Dunham Board of Trustees and administration are excited to share the progress made in achieving the goals outlined in the 2021-2026 Strategic Plan.

FISCAL SUSTAINABILITY

Establish the school as a secure and well-funded fiscal entity that can weather financial challenges and remain self-sustaining.

✔ Ten-year debt elimination plan outlined in 2021.

✔ $150,000 of annual giving allocated for need-based financial assistance and additional scholarship funds ($250,000 goal).

✔ Initial cash reserve of $1,500,000 established in August of 2022 ($2,000,000 goal).

✔ $1,650,000 held in cash reserves ($2,000,000 goal).

✔ Debt reduced to 3.5% of operating expenses (2.5% goal).

✔ $3,400,000 raised for principal debt paydowns ($5,500,000 goal).

✔ The Dunham Legacy Society created, resulting in $3,470,000 in planned giving commitments.

FACULTY SUPPORT AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Ensure the faculty’s continued ability to deliver an exceptional education through a curriculum that reflects a Christian worldview and prepares our students to lead in an ever-changing world.

✔ Dedicated in-service sessions continue to provide faculty with opportunities explore the intersection between faith and learning.

✔ Lance Hahn named Director of Spiritual Formation.

✔ New bible teacher hired to allow Lance Hahn to develop cohesive bible curriculum.

✔ Rob Sullivan promoted to Director of Academics.

✔ Comprehensive marketing plan developed to promote benefits of the Harkness Method.

✔ $75,000 of annual giving allocated for an additional one percent teacher pay increase and $50,000 of merit-based pay increases to deserving faculty ($250,000 goal).

The new lower school covered carpool area and walkways were completed during the summer. This $125,000 campus improvement concludes Phase II of the school’s planned safety and security upgrades.

PROGRAM EXPANSION

Ensure the future advancement of the School’s mission by adding programs that further meet the needs of parents and students and grow both the School’s sphere of influence and market share.

✔ Apple TVs and/or interactive boards installed in 100 percent of the classrooms.

✔ $150,000 in grants used to purchase additional technology items.

✔ Director hired to oversee the structure growth, and development of the Dunham Early Childhood Center.

✔ Two-year-old program added in 2021 with the opening of the Dunham Early Childhood Center.

✔ A third PreK-3 section added in the fall of 2022.

✔ $50,000 of professional development funds allocated for staff tech training.

FACILITIES UPDATES AND IMPROVEMENTS

Update and maintain a pristine, aesthetically pleasing, and highly functional campus that reflects the excellence that occurs within the classrooms.

✔ Campus master plan updated and approved by the Board of Trustees in the spring of 2022.

✔ McVay Quest Center refurbishment completed.

✔ Universal security app for faculty and staff phones implemented.

✔ Upgrades to the campus auditory alert system completed.

✔ Thirty new security cameras featuring AI technology installed.

✔ Second security resource officer hired.

✔ Key card access added to exterior doors of the Brown-Holt Chapel Arts Center, Rollins Family Dining Hall, and Carpenter-Randall Science Center.

✔ Campus maintenance budget increased to $175,000 ($200,000 goal).

✔ Director of Maintenance hired to complete a campus-wide assessment, establish a yearly maintenance schedule, and to address overdue maintenance issues.

✔ Lower School covered carpool area and walkways completed.

CAPITAL PROJECTS/NEW BUILDING

Develop and execute a comprehensive advancement strategic plan to fund the future growth and development of the school’s campus facilities.

✔ 40 & Forever Capital Campaign publicly launched in 2023, following a successful quiet phase that raised more than $9,100,000 of the $16,000,000 campaign goal.

✔ Lower School playground construction completed.

✔ Funding secured for Phase II of the Carpenter-Randall Science Center renovations.

✔ Fundraising underway for the remaining capital projects, including the Middle School and Upper School PE/Athletic improvements, expansion of the Rollins Family Dining Room, and exterior upgrades to Chapel Hall.

✔ More than 10,513,000 raised as of November 2024 for the 40 & Forever Capital Campaign; on track to complete campaign within the next two years.
