Experimental Learning Students at the Colleges of Law have opportunities to explore their own specific legal interests outside the classroom, whether they are inclined to make a contribution to legal scholarship, work in judicial chambers, or engage in the rough-and-tumble environment of real-world law practice. Through the Colleges' Directed Study Program, students can earn academic credit for completing in-depth legal research and writing projects under a faculty member's supervision. Some write scholarly law review-type articles, while others create publications that explain the law to a lay audience. To provide students with hands-on preparation for law practice, each student in the J.D. program is required to earn at least one unit of credit in the Colleges' highly regarded Legal Internship Program. Many students elect to earn additional internship credits because they realize the value of hands-on experience to their future careers as legal professionals.
