Burger Week in COVID-19 times

t’s no secret that the pandemic makes it more important than ever to support local businesses, and keep Halifax’s entrepreneurial spirit thriving. At the same time, the safety of restaurant staff and customers is vital. It was the right decision to postpone Burger Week in March. And the decision to bring it back now is one The Coast and our Halifax Burger Week partners make after getting advice from the Restaurant Association of Nova Scotia, listening to Nova Scotia’s public health head Dr. Robert Strang, consulting with local government and watching as new safety practices around COVID-19 rolled out. We have waited, stayed put, stayed in and washed our hands, and Zoomed our dinner parties but now is the time. The Atlantic Bubble has done a bang-up job in keeping those COVID case numbers down so we are excited to move forward with what could potentially be the only good part of 2020: Halifax Burger Week. Despite the pandemic, HBW is finally here so we have put together the following guidelines to keep us COVID free this Halifax Burger Week.

WIN BEER FOR A YEAR Miller Lite is awarding one lucky Halifax Burger Week eater beer for a year! To enter send your name and who you would share your “Beer for a Year” with to contests@thecoast.ca for one entry. Get a bonus entry by emailing a photo of the Miller Lite you enjoyed during Burger Week!

Winner will be chosen by random draw on Monday, November 2 and will be contacted by email. The winner must be 19 years of age or older and must prove age with photo ID.” Note the prize has no cash value and is awarded in gift certificates to be redeemed at any NSLC for Molson Coors Beer product.

• First and foremost make sure you monitor your health and health of those you care for – it is our collective responsibility to keep each other along with restaurants and their staff, safe. If you have any symptoms of COVID-19 please stay home. No jokes people. A list of symptoms can be found at novascotia.ca/ coronavirus. Wash your hands, use the sanitizer provided by restaurants. • If you have travelled outside of the Atlantic Bubble in the last 14 days, please stay home and complete your mandatory 14 day quarantine. Some of our partnering restaurants offer delivery but please make sure to keep this contact-free and adhere to all public health guidelines. Burger week from home by enjoying an infinite scroll of burgs on your social media #hfxburgerweek and at burgerweek.co. • If you are waiting for results from a COVID19 test you must stay home and abide by all guidelines set forth by public health. • If you arrive at a restaurant and there is a line-up, see if you can leave your number and take a walk around the block. If this is not possible go to your plan B, C or D restaurant choices. We have extended burger week for just this reason. • Mask up (if you can). Masks are mandatory in public spaces like at a restaurant or anywhere you can’t physically distance. • Be considerate of your group size. Restaurants have limited capacity still so you might need to split up. Consider calling ahead so you know what to expect or try going out at less peak times (can you say LUPPER?) • Respect all front of house, servers, chefs, line cooks, patty makers, cleaners and dishwashers. Everyone is doing their best at this crazy time. Smile behind that mask. And tip generously if you can.
