“Motivation comes from working on things we care about..”

Sheryl Sandburg

There are a lot of dedicated people who get their workouts in everyday without fail, but then there is a larger amount of us that need a special motivation to get off the sofa or out of the bed and get moving. Daily we compare ourselves to others everywhere. If we are not doing it, we see it on TV and social media. The people we compare ourselves to have just found their why and their way to get their exercise done. Sometimes it requires a few suggestions to start thinking out of the box. If you have decided that you want to get your training on but find a few excuses to stand in your own way, well I have compiled a few suggestions. Which comes first…motivation that you get from your why or doing it enough to make it a habit to build results that give you motivation…. LOL!!! Thus, which comes first the chicken or the egg?

1. Your why: There needs to be something that moves you internally and not externally. It should be something that you have a personal and emotional investment.

2. Make a plan: What you want to do or where you want to go to do it? When will you go, what days, and what time? What will you wear? Wearing a special outfit can motivate and get you to get moving…let’s go! 3. Reward yourself: After you set your goals, whether it is hitting the gym 2 days a week starting out or 4. Reward yourself for reaching that goal. 4. Playlist: This is my favorite thing to motivate me…MY MUSIC!!!! Put together some great beats and let’s get it DONE!! 5. Be prepared: Pack your gym bag and exercise clothes and keep them in the car. I always have extra clothes in the car, including a water bottle, protein pack and all you need. 6. Get family/friend’s support: Accountability and someone by your side or in your corner does wonders for motivation. 7. Join in on an exercise challenge: There are so many out there to choose from, just make sure that it is safe, within your goals and not outrageous and get moving. 8. Be kind to yourself: If you miss a workout don’t double up to make up that day. Workouts should be felt, but not meant to be a punishment. 9. Recovery: Make sure you rest. Rest between challenging workouts. When you are sore too much and are not able to do your regular daily routine, you will push working out to the back of the closet to avoid the pain. A little goes a long way.

Finding the motivation to exercise starts with keeping a promise to yourself, self-care and making that time for yourself a couple times week till you make it a habit. Use a couple of these suggestions to get you started. Happy Training!
