Chamber Shark Tank Showcases Entrepreneurship On May 7th, ten local entrepreneurs presented their one minute elevator pitches as part of the first every "Chamber Shark Tank" More than 100 people jammed into the Empire Arts Center's backstage space to watch the four sharks offer each contestant advice and guidance on how to take their product or service to market. Audience members were surprised by the sophistication of the ideas and prototypes.

The Community Foundation provided funding for the event through its BUSH Innovation Grant along with financial support from Alerus Financial. Contestants competed for a first prize of $500 and second and third place prizes of $250 each to help them launch their innovative idea or product. Not only were prizes received at the event, but one startup is now working with an angel investor who was in attendance with an investment of $50,000. The second Chamber Shark Tank is set for October 8th. Three contestants are already signed up to go into the Tank for the Fall event and it will be limited to just 10 going into the tank so contact The Chamber now if you want to present to the "Sharks"

Chamber Logo Sign in Board Room ence in Sioux Falls, Lisa Swanson, Chamber Vice President of Operations accepted the first place award for Publication of the Year in the 6 state region. The completely redesigned membership directory is clearly the best local publication at telling the compelling story of Grand Forks. It is a great recruitment tool and is articulated in a compelling style like no other, with rewritten copy by our very own Pulitzer Prize winner Mike Jacobs. The Membership Directory/Community Profile is designed in house, with pictures supplied by many chamber members. If you haven’t received a copy, we have plenty on hand at The Chamber.

In an effort to highlight the chamber brand, a new sign of the chamber logo was installed in the Chamber Board room last month. We hold many meetings and several news conferences in the board room each year and the sign will serve as an excellent backdrop.
