The windows at St. Teresa of Avila in Price Hill are uniquely designed in the style of the oldest stained glass in the world! The side windows are patterned on the “prophet windows” in the clerestory of Germany’s Augsburg Cathedral. The Augsburg windows, made in 1065, are the world’s oldest stained-glass windows still in their original settings. St. Teresa of Avila’s windows are larger and grouped in threes, but include otherwise exact reproductions of three of the five Augsburg windows.
Bells for the second church building were purchased with the money from St. Teresa of Avila school children.
Made in 1851, St. Teresa Church was the first 11-bell set ever cast in the United States.
“These windows are absolutely unique in design. To our knowledge, there is no other church in the world which has such a set of prophet and saint windows in that style.” - Gabriel Mayer, Franz Mayer Co., Munich “Not a spade in the land ’til the sum is in hand” - slogan for the capital campaign to build the current church
Pastor Msgr. William “Wild Bill” Anthony and architect Jack Burdick took a trip through Europe for design inspiration.
