As Pope Francis notes in ‘Amoris Laetitia,’ the Church is a family of families, and the home of pastoral accompaniment is the parish. The parish has a central role in making clear the Gospel vision for marriage and family life. Cardinal Donald Wuerl, speaking March 4 about “Sharing in the Joy of Love in Marriage and Family,” a new pastoral plan for the Archdiocese of Washington to implement “Amoris Laetitia” at the parish level.

The Catholic fraternal men’s organization launched an initiative that allows eligible men to become associate members by joining online, rather than through a parish. Associate membership is geared especially for men not able to make the time commitment to join a council, but it entitles them to similar benefits of council-based Knights. The number of psalms in the Book of Psalms. Two parishioners at the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis, Jonathan and Julia Vikesland, have combined their respective talents in video and music to create Psalm Reflections for the Lenten season. Each week during Lent, MARRIAGE LONGEVITY Marvin and Ellen Scheuble were honored at their parish, St. Mary in Waverly, they are releasing a video on the psalm from the upcoming Sunday’s Mass. Shot at the by Worldwide Marriage Encounter March 3 for being the longest married couple in Minnesota. They have been married 73 years and exchanged their vows on D-Day, June 6, 1944. St. Mary’s pastor, Father Basilica, videos feature commentary by Johan van Parys, the Basilica’s director of liturgy, along with Julia’s musical performance of the psalm. The age of the Diocese of La Crosse in west-central Wisconsin. The Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis’ neighbor opened its anniversary year March 3 with Mass celebrated by Bishop William Patrick Callahan of La Crosse at St. Gabriel in Prairie Du Chien, the oldest church in the diocese. ONLINE exclusive Leaders of local Catholic institutions that benefited from philanthropist John Nasseff’s generosity reflect on his legacy following his death Feb. 21 at age 94. A Catholic, former West Publishing executive and the son of Lebanese immigrants, Nasseff made his final public appearance at St. Agnes School in St. Paul, which he helped save from closure in 2007. “When God blessed him, he did not forget where he came from,” said Chorbishop Sharbel Maroun, pastor of St. Maron Maronite parish in Minneapolis, which also benefited from Nasseff’s generosity. “His roots were very, very important to him.” Read more at TheCatholicSpirit.com.

CORRECTIONS In the Feb. 8 issue, a story about the Aim Higher Foundation included an incorrect figure for the amount of additional scholarships it distributed last year with funds from the Catholic Services Appeal. The correct amount is $340,000. Also in the Feb. 8 issue, a story about Rachel’s Vineyard provided an incorrect cost to attend a retreat. The cost is $180, and it is always waived for participants who cannot afford it. In the Feb. 22 issue, a story about the Shakopee Passion Play incorrectly listed Father Erik Lundgren as pastor of Sts. Joachim and Anne. He is the parochial administrator. Also in the Feb. 22 issue, a story about Catholic Community Foundation staff member Mike Ricci provided an incorrect timeline of his employment with the foundation. He was offered a position at CCF in October 2016. The Catholic Spirit apologizes for the errors.
