South East Star BQ

By: Bill Gallaway This year the South East Region of Star Touring & Riding held their annual Star B Q in Hendersonville, NC. OK, get ready the Chapters attending were from the following States. North Carolina 6 Chapters, South Carolina 8 Chapters, Tennessee 2 Chapters, Georgia 1 Chapter, Indiana 1 Chapter, Pennsylvania 2 Chapters, Ohio 2 Chapters, Virginia 2 Chapters, Connecticut 1 Chapter, West Virginia 1 Chapter, and South Dakota the National Chapter. What this amounts to is over 180 attendees at the three day event that were ready to ride and have some fun. The event took place August 25th - 27th at The Cascades Mountain Resort in Hendersonville, NC. After the Attendees registered there was an opportunity to participate in the Silent Auction, a 50/50 raffle and get information on the many rides that were available for the 180+ attendees. Upon arrival riders checked out their rooms and found their riding partners and friends to adventure out and see the sights that Hendersonville had to offer. There were riders going all over the area. Some as far as Maggie Valley and down into South Carolina, my neck of the woods. I ride South Carolina continually so I ventured out to see Lake Lure, Chimney Rock and Bat Cave with a swing through Saluda, Tryon, and Landrum, SC. Later there was lunch, beverages, and opportunities to share what everyone saw on their specific adventure. That evening after everyone returned from dinner on their own all over town there was a Meet & Greet along with an Ice Cream Social that was held out on the patio. Again, the following day, there were various rides to Asheville, NC and a fun ride through the countryside where we visited a cider mill and an orchard. This evening dinner was held in a banquet room where, along with a cash bar, dinner was served and players of the Chinese auction found out what they had won. Folks gathered with their Chapters to enjoy dinner and listen to some specific Star and Chapter Business and listen to our Guest Speaker, Alyce Knaflich, from Aura Home, a house for women veterans transitioning out of homelessness in Buncombe County, NC. The primary goal is to provide a stable residence, for access to community resources and veterans affairs. Some services offered are counseling, job skills conversion, job training, financial assistance, legal assistance, medical care, and help with applications for veterans affairs benefits. It provides a safe, stable home for readjustment to civilian life. A few awards were presented, and there were raffle prizes and door prizes awarded. Folks were recognized in various categories such as the hottest bike, the dirtiest bike, the oldest bike, the bike with the most bling, and the ugliest bike. There

was also a mention of who (a non Officer) traveled the farthest from Chapter #293 New Haven, Connecticut. And there was reference to the next South East Star B Q which will be Held in Charleston, SC in May of 2018. It’s looking to be 4 fantastic days. A big “Thank You” to all of the folks that donated What this amounts to their time, in organizing the event, obtaining prizes, and is over 180 attendees or contributed toward the at the three day event event in some way. It was that were ready to a fun weekend with good ride and have some people. We couldn’t have fun. done it without you. If you didn’t make it, you missed a great time.
