‘Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince’ Are No Longer ‘End Game’

Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn have reportedly called it quits after six years of dating. On April 8th, ET released an article claiming that the two had broken up a few weeks before, stating that there was no animosity between the pair.

Fans were hesitant to believe the article due to the constant rumors that surrounded Swift and Alwyn’s relationship. They have kept their relationship very private since they first met in 2016 and throughout their relationship there have been many false rumors surrounding them. Such as, them being engaged, or married, or pregnant.

Swift has written many songs addressing her reactions to these rumors, such as her song “Paris”, where she writes, “privacy sign on the door and on my page and on the whole world, romance is not dead if you keep it just yours.” and “Lavender Haze” in which she says, “all they keep asking me is if I’m going to be your bride, the only kind of girl they see is a one-night or a wife.”

However, many reputable major news outlets quickly picked up the story, causing fans to wonder if this was actually just another rumor.

Soon after the article came out, Swift was spotted having dinner with friends in New York City. The pictures caused fans to speculate whether the rumors were true or not. Many believe that she was still wearing her Tiffany & Co “J” necklace. However, there was no clear picture of the necklace so it was hard to confirm. Also, she was just a short distance from Cornelia Street, which has a huge connection to Swift and Alwyn’s relationship. While some fans see it as just a coincidence, many believe that Swift only gets seen out in public when she wants to be and that this sighting is significant due to the timing.

Eventually, PEOPLE magazine seemingly confirmed their break-up, citing a source close to the pair. The source claimed that the break up was due to them having different personalities and that in the end, they just didn’t fit together. They also said that Alywn was struggling with Swift’s level of fame.

Many fans think Swift has been subtly hinting at the break up during her tour. Early on, she swapped out her song “Invisible String”, a song fans believe to be about her relationship with Alwyn and how they’re relationship was fated, to “The 1”, a song about wishing things worked out with an ex.

This past weekend Swift was in Tampa, Florida for her first show after the rumors broke. Many fans believe she was alluding to the break up when she stated, “So, we have a lot to catch up on, don’t we?” She then went on to say, “It’s been a really long time since I’ve been on tour. And to say that a lot has happened is an understatement.” Neither have publicly confirmed or denied the rumors, however given the private nature of their relationship it seems unlikely that they would say anything at all.
