Our Mission
To entertain, educate, and inspire our community while preserving this historic gem. How are we doing this all at once?
Entertain: Most nights of the week you can find local and global talent of all kinds on our stage!
Educate: Our In Focus program is not only a film school but a place of belonging and personal growth for youth in our community.
Inspire: Through our free Community Conversations series, local organizations and citizens impact change on important social issues.
Community: We ensure access for all with our $1 movie nights and by participating in the Card to Culture program, giving $5 tickets to EBT card holders.
Preserve: With a new elevator and four simultaneous construction projects this year alone, we’re making sure this beautiful building lasts into the next century and beyond.
As we enter our 10th year as a non-profit, you can be a part of all this.

On the surface, our In Focus program is a filmmaking class for youth ages 10 to 15 years of age. In practice, these hands-on classes offer a deep impact curriculum that creates a critical safe space for kids to express and evolve their identities, learn the collaborative nature of success, and find their place in the world.
Throughout the program, young filmmakers make 5 or more films, changing their role each time. They not only learn a myriad of vocational skills this way but also get to grow; students who are natural leaders learn the power of supporting roles, and more hesitant or shy students get the chance to lead with their own ideas.
Thanks to the funding provided by the Jim and Marie Dawson fund, Someone Else’s Child, the Van Otterloo Foundation, and others, this program is rapidly expanding its scope and the generous number of full scholarships available, allowing kids from diverse backgrounds to learn and grow together.
You can contribute to make even more scholarships available.

The Cabot Goes Green

Live events can create large quantities of waste-from thousands of plastic cups and water bottles to pallets of cardboard to hours of inefficient energy use. The Cabot is dedicated to conserving resources and reducing the ecological footprint of the Cabot on the earth and in the community we serve.
Our goal is to eliminate unnecessary waste, minimize adverse impacts on our cherished resources, and promote sustainable practices among other venues and communities. In 2019 we eliminated plastic cups, lids, and straws and switched to compostable popcorn bags. In 2021 we took the pledge to eliminate plastic water bottles by the end of 2022. We were not able to complete this process, but it is underway. By late spring of 2023 we will have installed filtered water systems at every bar and concession counter at the Cabot and plastic water bottles will no longer be sold. Please join us in our efforts when you visit The Cabot! By working together we can make big changes.
Card To Culture
The Cabot is proud to partner with the Mass Cultural Council and Department of Transitional Assistance to offer the Card to Culture program, the most comprehensive effort of its kind in the nation to open doors to arts and culture experiences for low-income families.

Card to Culture lets EBT card holders purchase tickets to most Cabot events for $5 each. This special Card to Culture ticket price offers the experience of performances that span the genres —from concerts, to comedy, to movies, and more.
Community Conversations
Community Conversations are free monthly events at The Cabot designed to promote discussion and drive change on important topics to our community.

Events always feature a live Q&A paired with experiences such as screenings, lectures, and musical performances. Community Conversations was first announced in May 2021 and has addressed diverse social issues such as homelessness, disability, and workplace equity.
