Foot pain isn’t normal
Divorce and long-term care
Our feet, they take us places. Yet many people walk in pain. Foot pain isn’t normal. There are some steps you can take to walk through life with comfortable, pain-free feet. 1. If you go to a pedicurist, be sure the salon is clean and always bring your own tools. 2. Look for signs of aging in your feet: Arthritis can set in, feet may get longer or wider, or you may develop hammertoes or bunions. 3. Ladies, try to keep your heel height to 1.5-2 inches. If you’re wearing a higher heel, take breaks and sit occasionally. 4. Be careful when trimming your nails. Always cut straight across and avoid cutting in a curved shape, which may cause an ingrown toenail. Don’t cut nails when they are wet. They are likely to tear or bend. 5. Consider your environment when going barefoot. Public areas, such as health clubs or pools, may pose a risk for fungal infections. 6. Check your feet daily for any changes. You depend on your feet, so make sure you give them the care they deserve. We can help to put a spring in your step and move on to more pain-free days. Call today for your appointment. You may have planned on growing old together and taking care of each other as you aged, but what happens when you’re no longer a couple? Because of the loss of your built-in care provider, “long-term care planning is more important for people who are divorced than married couples,” says Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. Slome also suggests that it may be especially important for single and divorced women because of their longer life expectancies, which can cause them to rack up more long-term care costs than men. However, this isn’t to say that single and divorced men don’t need it – they most certainly do. If you are going through a divorce, consider who might be your future caretaker and how you will pay for care. Consult with an advisor who can help you decide whether you can adequately self-insure with your postdivorce assets, or whether you should consider supplementing with longterm care insurance. Your health and age will influence your rates, and so you’ll want to lock in coverage while you are younger and in good health. Divorce is painful enough without having to worry about whether you will be financially secure in the future. Make sure your attorney considers long-term care protection when structuring a divorce settlement so that your assets and future are protected. MyersYounger LTC, 2537 S.
