The Burlington School Capital Campaign

Discovering After three years of changes, growth, and much hard work, The Burlington School has found its identity as a premier and independent preschool 3-12th grade school. Our growing student body is one of many indicators that the positive momentum of TBS is undeniable. One additional step that we must take is to unite our school on one campus. One building is leased and the other is almost at capacity. It is time to break ground on something new!

Building

This capital campaign seeks your support in funding these three priorities that are key to achieving our overall strategic goals. In order to secure a strong, sustainable future for our students: Campus Facilities: We must provide state-of-the-art facilities for academics, arts, and athletics. We must build a new academic building where our students will engage in rigorous learning, scientific exploration, and vigorous debate. We must provide athletic facilities where our students will compete and learn about teamwork and good sportsmanship. We must provide space for the arts where our students will express their creativity through both performing and visual arts. Program Enhancement: We must continue to enhance our programs to provide the most innovative, challenging, and college preparatory education available. We must ensure access to this education for all mission-appropriate students by providing adequate support for our Indexed Tuition program. And we must expand our support for continuous professional development for our faculty so that they are challenged and inspired to share their knowledge and passion for learning with our students. Long-Term Financial Stability: We must build both a short-term Building Maintenance Fund and rebuild our General Endowment.

Becoming

The world needs well-rounded, confident, responsible, ambitious leaders. It needs leaders who will ask the right questions, challenge assumptions, and seek creative and innovative solutions to problems. TBS will provide the foundation for these leaders. Our students need your support so that they may become everything that our world needs them to be.

Future Phases For our second phase, we will continue developing our campus with the addition of a Fine Arts Center, which could feature an auditorium, a design center, and a recording studio as well as outdoor learning centers and a nature trail. We hope to be in a position to begin this phase in 2023.

The Burlington School Capital Campaign

Frequently Asked Questions How long will I have to pay my campaign pledge?

We encourage our donors to pay their pledges over a three-year period. Payments can be made annually, semi-annually, or quarterly at the discretion of the donor. A longer period may be considered for gifts greater than $30,000. Because these funds will be used to pay off debt associated with our building projects, a shorter pledge period would greatly benefit our work.

Will I still be asked to give to the Annual Fund? Yes. Annual Fund gifts are one of the sources the school counts on each year to fund its operating expenses. Campaign pledges are over and above annual contributions.

How much should I give? That is a personal decision that only you can make. We are asking donors to consider giving at certain levels knowing that reaching our $6 million goal will require incredibly generous gifts from our constituents.

Are gifts of stocks, bonds or real property accepted? Yes, by all means. Gifts of appreciated stock and property can often have substantial tax advantages for the donor. We encourage you to speak with your financial advisor to determine the best way to make your gift.

Will you accept planned gifts? Yes, but they will not count toward the primary campaign goal. All planned gifts will be used at maturity to build the endowment, or for other purposes arranged by the donor with the school. In order to meet the needs that the Campaign is designed to fund, we need current gifts in cash, stock, and appreciated assets.
