• To control the inflow of cheap package tourism both local and international. These crowd the hotels and beaches of Sharm spending peanut money. This summer has been catastrophic.
Businessmen and investors here want to see a three year plan set by professional tourism experts in conjunction with Ministry of Tourism, Chamber of tourist establishments ,major investors and travel co. plus of course the Governor of South Sinai as chairman to make a three year plan to tackle the following:-
• Decent tourists both local and overseas will not be seen dead on the same beach , swimming pool or dinning room with this mob.
• Hotels must agree and stick to one policy and stop underselling each other being manipulated by travel co.. • The plans should start now before the travel co. start booking for next year.
•The rate charged are so low that hotels we spoke to say that although they are full, they are monthly losing money other than damage to property. • The distressed decent tourists after experiencing the droves of hungry… . attacking the buffet will not think of returning to Sharm ever again. • We were informed by experts that 50% occupancy at normal prices will make a profit to hotels but the international travel firms have to change their sales tactics and return to the days prior to 2009…
Tourism sector can create job opportunities faster than industry or agriculture but the tourism and hotel institutes should change their curriculum & have the students do practical classes and training & not only theoretical classes.

The package tourism that is arriving to Sharm for the last few years have very limited budgets so they hunt for cheap gifs and souvenirs. This is not enogh to upkeep the local economy.
Our publication “The Book” strives to support the local economy of Sharm and Dahab but tourists arriving with limited means cannot support the local economy… Again the target of tourism should be to attract the rich and famous. Now that the New Suez Canal is under construction plus the mega commercial and industrial projects planned on the banks of the Canal it stands to reason that the ARAB BRIDGE is a necessity to complement the development of the Eastern Banks of the Canal and consequently Sinai Peninsula. ROAD ACCIDENTS The horrific road accidents that happened to two buses on the Sharm/ELtour road last few weeks brings to mind that Egypt tops the world list for road accidents and fatalities. Although the hospitals and ambulances did a reasonably
good job there remains the consideration by the responsible authorities to look again at the 100 km road to Eltour. This strip is becoming too narrow to handle present and future traffic between the two cities. Plans should be made to turn it into a dual carriage way. . For the time being the roads and bridges dept. should consider clearing the sand banks on both sides of the road to create an escape route for drivers facing vehicles charging at them from the opposite direction driven by sleeping drivers…

I call on Naama Bay investors to continue their efforts to clear the area from harassments, clear it from rubbish (set up rubbish bins everywhere), set up directional signs everywhere so the visitor can find his way around the Bay.
