responsible for 20% of deaths from coronary heart disease Every year, 1.9 million people die from tobacco-induced heart disease, according to a new brief released today by the World Health Organization, World Heart Federation and the University of Newcastle Australia ahead of World Heart Day, marked on 29 September. This equates to one in five of all deaths from heart disease, warn the report’s authors, who urge all tobacco users to quit and avoid a heart attack, stressing that smokers are more likely to experience an acute cardiovascular event at a younger age than non-smokers. Just a few cigarettes a day, occasional smoking, or exposure to second-hand smoke increase the risk of heart disease. But if tobacco users take immediate action and quit, then their risk of heart disease will decrease by 50% after one year of not smoking. “Given the current level of evidence on tobacco and cardiovascular health and the health benefits of quitting smoking, failing to offer cessation services to patients with heart disease could be considered clinical malpractice or negligence. Cardiology societies should train their members in smoking cessation, as well as to promote and even drive tobacco control advocacy efforts,” said Dr Eduardo Bianco, Chair of

the World Heart Federation Tobacco Expert Group. The brief also shows that smokeless tobacco is responsible for around 200 000 deaths from coronary heart disease per year. E-cigarettes also raise blood pressure increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease. Moreover, high blood pressure and heart disease increase the risk of severe COVID-19. A recent WHO survey found that among people dying of COVID-19 in Italy, 67% had high blood pressure and in Spain, 43% of people who developed COVID-19 were living with heart disease. “Governments have a responsibility to protect the health of their people and help reverse the tobacco epidemic. Making our communities smoke-free reduces the number of tobacco-related hospital admissions, which is more important than ever in the context of the current pandemic,” said Dr Vinayak Prasad, Unit Lead of the WHO No Tobacco Unit. Tobacco control is a key element for reducing heart disease. Governments can help tobacco users quit by increasing tax on tobacco products, enforcing bans on tobacco advertising and offering services to help people give up tobacco.

TIR will help improve trade between India, Central Asia & CIS countries

NEW DELHI, "TIR will facilitate intermodal transport and act as enabling document to cross multiple international borders without any additional checks." Said Sunil K Mall, Commissioner of Customs, Nhava Sheva, Mumbai. Address a webinar on 'ATA & UN Carnet - Facilitates Free Movement of Goods Across Multiple International Borders', organized by FICCI, jointly with the Federation of Freight Forwarders' Association in India (FFFAI) and IRU, Geneva, Mr Mall added that TIR will further help to improve trade between India, Central Asia & CIS countries. Mr Raphael Hirt, IRU, Geneva said, "The International Road Transport Union was very pleased to acknowledge the interest shown by Indian exporting industry towards the TIR procedure, especially the efforts made by CBIC, FICCI and FFFAI to promote this

trade facilitation tool. IRU will continue to support all stakeholders involved in the implementation of TIR and its electronic version ? eTIR in India. This will enable trade actors and Customs to benefit fully from the immense advantages provided by the TIR Convention which includes simplification of border crossing procedures, reduction of time and cost for the international movements of goods." While sharing his experience as the first TIR holder in India Mr Shankar Shinde, President-Elect, FFFAI said, "Customs procedures in India should be further simplified under TIR to benefit large traders and exporters in India." Mr A.V. Vijaykumar, Chairman, FFFAI, Mr Raphael Hirt, Project Manager, IRU Geneva, Mr Shankar Shinde, Chairman-Elect, FFFAI; Mr P.S. Pruthi, Senior Consultant, FICCI & Former

Member Customs Excise & Service Tax Appellate Tribunal (CESTAT) also shared their perspective. The webinar was also attended by freight forwarding and shipping companies, exporters from various sectors, fair and exhibition organizers. The experts discussed issues involved with respect to temporary imports of goods. ATA Carnet is a temporary admission document, which simplifies the customs procedures and clearances in a foreign country, without paying duty or a bank guarantee for temporary import into that country. Like a passport for goods, ATA Carnet allows for the goods for which it was issued to enter any of the participating countries for up to one year. An ATA Carnet holder can avoid customs declaration and can do away with security deposit or guarantee in the country of temporary importation.

TIR aims to facilitate the international transport of goods under customs seal with a maximum coverage. The system provides a guarantee covering the customs taxes and duties at risk which is required to pass transit countries and provides a balance between the responsibilities of the customs authorities and the international business community. It prevents delays in border crossing operations- by minimizing the formalities decreases the transportation costs, as a result, encourages the development of international trade. FICCI is the sole National Issuing & Guaranteeing Association (NIGA) for the operation of ATA & UN TIR Carnet system in India and has been closely working with the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC) for the smooth operation of system in the country.

Need for Domestic Manufacturing of Smartphones,

a step towards Self-Reliant India nation

3

In the upcoming years there is a huge opportunity for India by creating, sourcing, making and exporting Smartphone from India, shared Sanmeet Kochhar, Vice President, HMD Global in a session organized by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry on 'Challenges and Opportunities for Smartphone Industry post COVID-19'. Sanmeet Kochhar mentioned that with a decline in the world GDP, according to reports the worldwide Smartphone market has suffered the largest decline year-on-year. Talking about the challenges and opportunities, he discussed that there is a need for secure enterprise mobility. According to many studies, 2021 will rebound with 6% YoY growth in Smartphones, and looking at the present times, there is an increase in the usage time of Smartphone. Value-added services like insurance, extended warranty, or things that help to build value in their purchase are expected to increase in the upcoming years, deliberated by Kochhar. Sunil Joon, Vice President & Chief Product Officer, Micromax Informatics Ltd, while giving an industry perspective mentioned that

there is a decline in the shipments due to COVID and an increase in the online channel of smartphones, which is also expected to grow at a much faster pace. He mentioned that due to COVID-19, consumers have increased their buying on online channels. The consumer services on these online channels have generated stickiness in their consumer's minds. Due to this, the presence of online channels has been registered in remote and rural areas as well. He also said that looking at the present market trends, there is a need for a fresh perspective for sales and distribution in the offline market. Talking about the future growth prospects of the industry, he said that this is a highly resilient industry. Also, with the emergence of digital learning and remote working, this industry has increased its users. Now, this industry needs to look at affordability for driving the market along with more userfriendly features. Sanjay Aggarwal, Senior Vice President, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, deliberated about the growing need for the strong telecom network in the times

of the pandemic to stay connected with each other. He discussed that while there are a lot of challenges in this industry to cater to; there is a pool of opportunities as well which makes this sector one of the pivotal sectors for the growth of the economy. He also discussed the rise in the usage of smartphones which offers multiple user-friendly features, is portable, and comes at affordable prices. Aggarwal also highlighted that due to COVID-19, one of the challenges the Smartphone industry is facing is on the manufacturing side. Therefore, there is a need to amplify the domestic manufacturing and production of smartphones which

will help to expand the market and increase the ability to adapt the technology, leading to the growth of the economy and a move towards a Self-Reliant India. Sandeep Aggarwal, Chairman, Telecom Committee, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, while giving a background of the mobile industry, highlighted that India has the capability to manufacture smartphones in India and Government is encouraging domestic manufacturing in a significant manner with robust notifications. He discussed that during and post-pandemic, there is will be a significant shortage in the spare parts due to international manufacturing disrup-

tion. He hopes that with the diligent efforts of the Indian Government, the Smartphone industry amplifies its manufacturing growth and makes this industry Self-Reliant. Saurabh Sanyal, Secretary-General, PHD Chamber, in his formal vote of thanks deliberated that Covid-19 has accelerated the pace of technology adoption across the country and allowed many useful apps, making Smartphone an integral part of lives. He discussed that Indian brands can benefit from the Make in India and Digital India initiatives from the government to take control of manufacturing rather than depending on outside ODMs to design and manufacture their products. He highlighted that the Indian market for smartphones needs innovation and investment in R&D, building in-house capability with a greater possibility of localization, quality control and differentiation. The session was moderated by Dr. Yogesh Srivastav, Principal Director, PHD Chamber, and was supported by Paramount Communications Limited, and was successfully attended by the industry stalwarts.

pects of doing business - from production process to delivery of products and services. Technology has enabled the WFH a feasible proposition. While it is early days to assess how exactly things would pan out, remote working has its own op-

portunities and even challenges. We need to adjust fast to this paradigm." For instance, the survey cited an example of an IT firm which has 112 new recruits from Tier II cities like Indore, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Vijayawada, Chandigarh, Patna and Nashik. All the new recruits would follow the WFM model, opening new opportunities for Tier II cities and reducing the civic load on mega cities. As for public transport which has largely now been opened, the survey found that 73 per cent of the respondents would prefer to use their own vehicles (either 2-wheeler or 4wheeler). Only 21 per cent are looking at continuing to use public transport. Rise in sales of passenger cars, with 1,97,523 units being recorded in July 2020, is seen in that context. However, the trend has a flip side to it. Increased usage of private vehicles would lead to congestion and choke up the cities. Corporates and the government agencies need to work together with the employees to find workable solutions. Corpo-

rates can look at staggered working hours so that everyone doesn’t have to report to the office at the same time. The study recommended that the governments should consider urban design changes, which promote pedestrianizing and the use of non-motorized transport. "This can significantly decongest cities and would be beneficial not just now, but also in the long run." Public transport agencies need to look at various means to make travel safer for commuters. They must ensure that all frontline employees - drivers, conductorswear safety gears (masks, gloves, face shields) at all times. Use of touch-free sanitizers and contactless washbasins with soap dispensers at offices, railway and metro stations and bus depots must be made compulsory. Other measures should include disinfecting the vehicle after every ride, strict adherence to mask wearing by passengers and other engineering and design solutions.

74% WFH employees want to continue remote working in the midst of Covid-19

TAC News, New Delhi

An overwhelming majority of employees who started working from home (WFH) immediately after Covid-19 outbreak and subsequent lockdowns would like to continue WFH, as confidence in public transport has not been restored even as almost all the states have opened it, an ASSOCHAM-Primus Partners survey has pointed out. Another key pointer from the survey conducted across Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune and Ahmedabad in the different age groups of employees was that a vast majority of those who need to commute to work places would prefer their private vehicles, be it passenger cars or motor bikes. "Post lockdown, we see that people would prefer some amount of work from home to continue, with 74 per cent favouring it," the survey done by ASSOCHAM in collaboration with the consulting firm Primus Partners noted. It said companies have also seen the benefit in letting employees to

WFH, as it becomes location agnostic, allowing reduction in operational costs, including rentals of the office premises. The chamber's secretary general, Mr Deepak Sood said, "New normal is unfolding across different as-

A COLOURFUL LIFE IS A LIFE WORTH LIVING

happy. g To celebrate the person, you are. g To lead a happy life and finally, g To make it worthwhile. Do not let your precious life slip between your fingers in sadness and melancholy. It was given to you for a reason and isn't happiness the most important reason enough? Happiness radiates fulfilment within you whereas sadness steals every minute of your happiness. It is true that we are slapped with hardships for the better part of it, time and again, but by choosing to be happy, you can slap away the hardship right back to where it came from. By choosing to be happy, you are in control of the ebb and flow, life puts you under. By choosing to be happy, you can make it count.

KEEP SMILING, BE HAPPY: YOU DESERVE IT!

Sajeeda Feroz "Life is beautiful", could be one of the most common phrases we have heard throughout our lives. But hey, let's take a different take on it, shall we? What makes life beautiful?. In 1666, Sir Isaac Newton discovered that when a beam of light passes through a spectrum, it is split into seven constituent colours, namely: violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red popularly

known as the colours of the rainbow. This phenomenon holds true to our lives as well. We humans, are this beam of light. When we pass through the spectrum at birth, there is a burst of colour. And from then on, for every moment of our lives we are subjected to go through different changes and embark on a journey encompassed with a myriad of colours. Each tinge at each different time giving rise to an agglomeration of them. The dispersion of a beam of light

may give rise to just seven colours but when these are mixed with each other time and again, a million colours are born and a million memories are made throughout your life.

They may be happy, joyous, enjoyable or sad, dull, soul crushing or they could even exist a mixture of emotions involved. Nevertheless,

all these memories happened for a reason. They happened because you existed. They happened because you mattered. They happened because you are a part of this world

and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. You only live once! You pass through the spectrum just once. It means you get just ONE shot: g To give your best at unwrapping your gift of life. g To be the best version of yourself. g To do what you love. g To love someone to the best of your ability. g To do what you do, with passion. g To keep the people around you

May your life never be as boring as the white beam of light. Split it into as many colours as possible. Enjoy what each tint has to offer. Make every hue a lasting memory. Make those hoards of shades count.

They make "life beautiful".

Never be hard on yourself. Be happy. Enjoy life to the fullest. Laugh and be merry. Manifest yourself to the world. Make each colour of your life lucrative because you only get to live once. Let it be as resplendent and vibrant as it is supposed to be. THE COLOURS OF LIFE MAKE IT BEAUTIFUL.

The ultimate cause of Human Destruction! Bhavna Singh

It was a long time ago that a sculptor lived in a village. He loved sculpture very much and due to this he devoted his entire life to sculpture. He had become so accomplished that every idol he made seemed to be alive. Everyone admired his art. His discussions were far and wide. Seeing so much fame, the sculptor was ejected. In this spirit, he considered himself the best sculptor. He got older and when his last time came near, he started thinking of a way to avoid death. He wanted them to escape from the eyes of the Yamdoot. In the end, he got a tip. Demonstrating his unmatched sculpture, he created 10 such sculptures that looked exactly like him. The sculptures looked so vibrant that no one could say who the sculptor was and who the idol was. The sculptor sat among those idols. The sculptor was difficult to identify among them. Then the Yamdoot reached his life. But he was surprised to see 11 similar statues. The Yamdoot was unable to distinguish those idols. But he also came to know that the sculptor is sitting hidden among these idols. But to defeat his life, it was necessary to identify the sculptor. According to the rules, the sculptor had come to an end and the Yamdoot did not want to go against the rules, leaving his life. If the Yamdoot wanted it, he could see every statue broken and it would be an insult to the art of the sculptor. In such a situation, the Yamdoot took a break. The Yamdoot knew that the sculptor was very obtrusive. In such a situation, seeing the idols, Yamdoot said that all these idols are a wonderful confluence of artistry and beauty. But the sculptor made an error. If he had been here, I would have told him what the error was. At this point the ego of the sculptor woke up. He quickly said, "Error ?? Impossible!! My sculptures are always impeccable. " The trick of Yamadoot was successful and he caught the sculptor. He said that idols do not speak. This is your fault that you cannot control your ego. Yamdoot went back to Yamlok, losing the life of the sculptor.

TAC News Noida: Bestselling author, Ratna Vira’s writing was the focus of an enthralling webinar on 17th September. Hosted by Neeta and Shreya Aneja’s Trends International, the webinar covered issues ranging from altruism in the time of COVID-19 to the inheritance rights of women. Trends is a platform for curated art, culture, social and literary experiences. It works with nationally acclaimed artists in music, performing art, theatre and standup comedy. The webinar with Ratna Vira and her daughter and co-author, Suhasini Vira, was in the context of Ratna’s third book,

Why People Give, which examines philanthropy. It was particularly well attended as Ratna and Suhasini are amongst the first mother-daughter co-authors writing in English in India. Suhasini was asked about the importance of giving in the time of COVID-19 and the thoughts of the younger generation. She argued that giving has become even more important during the pandemic. “I have seen civil society step in to help those who have been worst affected by the pandemic, particularly young people who are trying to make a difference in society by volunteering or

starting their own ventures for social impact. I started the Clean Hands Initiative to make handwashing more publicly accessible. I’ve seen a lot of people close to me helping with mental health during these times, as well as with ration and mask distribution.” Neeta added that Ratna and Suhasini’s book, Why People Give, is relevant specially now when the world is grappling with COVID.The need to support each other and look beyond oneself may be the mantra to get us through this crisis. Ratna Vira was asked about her first book, Daughter By Court

Order, which was about a daughter standing up for her identity and her rights. She was asked about the recent Supreme Court order on safeguarding rights of a daughter and her views on whether this would work in India. Ratna’s crisp and clear answer was that the Supreme Court judgement is most welcome. “The Court has made its intention clear,” she said. “This is an improvement of the 2004 amendment to the Hindu inheritance laws. In a country like India, where patriarchy has a deep root in the psyche of people, it is thesejudgements that will hopefully create a shift. Additionally, when a woman succeeds at work, there are other motives attributed to her success. Slowly attitudes arechanging, because women are driving the change.” The engaged audience wanted to know about Ratna’s experience of co-authoring a book with her daughter and about which was the favourite among her books. She felt that it had been wonderful to collaborate with her daughter on this book. “We both grew as people and professionals. The only challenge was the time difference because she was at university abroad.” After only a brief moment of thought, Ratna said that Daughter By Court Order was her favourite book. “Being my first book, I relate to Aranya’s story.”

months. We’re ranked number one at the moment and there’s reasons for that. And if someone’s banging so hard on the door (in

the Sheffield Shield) that we can’t ignore them, that’s what we’re looking for.” Which clearly states that he is interested in including experienced players in the upcoming series against India. India under Virat Kohli achieved the historic feat of winning in Australia for the first time in 2018-19 but the hosts did not have Steve Smith and David Warner back then . This time the duo's presence would make the series even more exciting. Meanwhile Indian team's premier speedster Mohammed Shami feels that Indian Premier League will provide the right kind of tournament that allows players to get into the groove nicely. It would be great as the players to be playing in the Australia tour are playing IPL.Thus it

will set their body and momentum perfectly by then. The Australia-bound India players will fly directly after the IPL that concludes on November 10 for the much-anticipated tour which is likely to begin with a T20 series followed by four Tests and ODIs. After a huge break since the outbreak of the pandemic , now when the matches has again started , it's very delightful to see the excitement of the cricket fans . Specially the Indians, who were born cricket lovers! Starting of IPL has already created a buzz and surge of enthusiasm around the world. And after that the cricket fans would be eagerly waiting for the India- Austrailia series towards the end of this year.

Australia may not experiment with squad for Test series against India

King of Pop Michael Jackson was born on August 29 in 1958. Even today the whole world remembers Micheal Jackson, not only his songs and dance but also his stories beyond the stage. One such story is about Micheal Jackson shopping in Mall. Actually, Michael Jackson's dream was to go for shopping in the mall like a common man. He told in an interview how his dream was fulfilled. The entire Las Vegas mall was closed so that Micheal Jackson could do shopping. Micheal Jackson stated this desire in an interview in 2003. Then one of his fans, a Las Vegas supermarket owner, arranged. It was decided that on the day Micheal Jackson would go shopping, the common people's

mall would be closed. Micheal Jackson came and shopped like a common man. At the mall, selected people were seen doing normal shopping, but they were all em-

ployees or family of Micheal Jackson. A video of this has also surfaced, in which Micheal Jackson is walking with a trolley, watching things, meeting people present there. He had a lot of fun in the store and described the experience as Disneyland. He

had said, today I got to do something that I don't normally get. Micheal Jackson has another anecdote in the supermarket. Micheal Jackson then goes to a shopping mall, picks up items of his choice one by one, and at the last finds that he has bought the entire super market. In fact, Micheal Jackson bought everything the Super Market staff described as good.
