CARE FOR OUR PETS & ANTIGUA’S ANIMALS
Many of our residents have pets particularly dogs. Long-stay visitors often bring their pets with them. Even our yachts sometimes have a resident pet. Fortunately the Veterinary Department of the Government has done its best to ensure that Antigua has no dangerous health problems with the animals. Sadly our visitors often see homeless dogs wandering about. Sometimes they want to adopt or do something to remedy the situation. Some fortunate dogs have found a home overseas. PAAWS is a shelter for dogs and cats. They work with a foster shelter in Toronto where Antiguan puppies quickly find homes. Visit PAAWS and the town of Parham while on your travels through Antigua. PAAWS is entirely supported by voluntary contributions, and any donation is gratefully received. Visitors are encouraged to visit this excellent facility and perhaps take advantage of the ‘Adopt a Donkey’ programme. This project is entirely supported by voluntary contributions. Antigua has an excellent established facility for taking care of pets in your absence and providing first-class veterinary services year-round. This is the Pioneer Kennel and Veterinary Clinic, located in the Bendals area, which offers many amenities as well as the hotel service for your pets! It is excellently landscaped and can be viewed by appointment. Pioneer offers the all-important service of Import and Export assistance for dogs and cats, 30 indoor kennels and outside exercise runs, dog grooming, sales of pet products and dog training. The facility is operated by long-established Dr. Radcliffe Robins with a staff of four including Dr. Diandra Payne. Antigua is developing increasing awareness of the need to take care of the animals on our island.
