Kenya Establishes a Transport and Logistics Network Executive Order establishing the Kenya Transport and Logistics Network (KTLN

T

he newly established Kenya Transport and Logistics Network (KTLN) announced by President Uhuru Kenyatta recently is expected to bring an integrated logistics under one management umbrella to revamp the economy and to effectively expand Kenyan market share in Eastern Africa. The network brings together Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) and Kenya Pipeline Company Limited (KPC) under the coordination of the Industrial and Commercial Development Corporation (ICDC). KTLN is expected to leverage on the efficiencies and synergies of the four

State agencies so as to achieve Kenya's strategic agenda of becoming a regional logistics hub. The KTLN is can thus be compared to South Africa's Transnet SCO Limited – a large rail, port and pipeline company formed in April 1990. The South African organization was formed by restructuring into business units the operations of South Africa Railways and Habours and other operations and products. Like its South African counterpart, KTLN is expected to lead to the lowering of the cost of doing business in the country through the provision of port, rail and pipeline infrastructure in
