Quarter Final: Listowel Emmets 1.14 v Ballyduff 0.13 Con Brosnan Park Moyvane was the venue for this gripping game of football between Ballyduff and Listowel Emmetts in the Quarter Final of this years North Kerry Championship. Credit to both sides playing in excellent conditions it was all action from start to finish Ballyduff with a point from a free by John Paul Leahy opened the scoring. Jack Goulding on a solo run added another soon after. Listowel were finding it difficult to get their hands on the ball in the middle third of the field and Ballyduff added further points when Jack Goulding on a turn over pointed in the ninth min. A min. later John Paul Leahy at the end of a kick from outfield blasted at the Keith Hughes in the Listowel goal who deflected over the bar. Such was Ballyduffs dominance it took until the 15th min for Listowel to register their first point from midfielder Cormac Mulvihill an excellent point from play 45 yards out. This score seemed to inspire Listowel who added another well taken point from Sam Tarrant. Ballyduff replied with a Mikey Boyle free but at this stage Listowel were getting to grips with their opponents and added two more fine points from play coming from Conor Cox and Sam Tarrant. Ballyduff did settle before the break to add two further points a free by John Paul Leahy and a brilliant kick fom Mikey Boyle to leave the half time score Ballyduff 0.08 Listowel Emmetts 0.04. The second half began at a frantic pace with Listowel adding two opening points by Noel Kennelly on as a sub at half time and a Conor Cox free. Mikey Boyle replied with a free. Listowel now began to run at their opponents and it was Sam Tarrant again who got another Listowel point in the ninth min followed by a well taken free from the 45 by Conor Cox.Just as it looked as if Listowel were gaining control of the game Ballyduff sprung into life again a ball into the Listowel square caused confusion and it rebounded out to Mikey Boyle who blasted at goal and it was parried over the bar by the Listowel keeper. A minute later Jack Goulding again tested Keith Hughes in the Listowel goal blasting straight at him and he again managed to deflect over the bar.Amazingly another ball in to the Listowel square again caused panic and in the melee a Ballyduff boot failed to make proper contact with the ball and it went straight across the goalmouth and to safety. Now Ballyduff were in complete control and sub Padraig Boyle and two points from play in as many minutes. Had Ballyduff taken one of those goal chances they were presented with in that period they probably would have ended the Listowel challenge, but they didn't and Listowel showing all their great championship pedigree made Ballyduff pay. Conor Cox with a free and Niall Collins from play added points and then came the game changer when a swift attack Sam Tarrant sent a piledriver to the Ballyduff net and that rocked Ballyduff who try as they did could not find an answer to the Listowel onslaught and it was Listowel who then dominated to the end with further points by Brian Sweeney, Brian Murphy and David Keane to put Listowel into this years semi final where they face Ballydonoghue. Great credit to both teams for a very entertaining game of football on a very good surface. Had Ballyduff taken the chances that came their way midway through the second half they may well have seen the game out but Listowel showed all their great battling credentials to take the spoils on a scoreline Listowel 1.14 -v- Ballyduff 0.13. Ballydonoghue captain Martin Mahony with the cup after his side defeated Desmonds last Sunday in the North Kerry Intermediate Final

KIERAN CORRIDAN MEMORIAL INTERMEDIATE CUP FINAL Sponsored by South Of Ireland Waste Management Ballydonoghue 1.14 -v- Castleisland Desmonds 1.07 Ballydonoghue cruised to victory in the South of Ireland Waste Management sponsored Kieran Corridan Memorial North Kerry Intermediate Football Final played in sun drenched Duagh on Sunday last November 27th. Indeed there could be no complaints in regard pitch or weather conditions as both were ideal. The Duagh venue was immaculate with a perfect sod for the players benefit. But alas the game itself never produced the tight encounter we were expecting especially considering that these two sides produced a thriller in the County Urban League Final earlier in the season with Desmonds on that occasion capturing the title by a goal margin. Indeed pre match discussions on this occasion were all geared towards that previous decider with the pressure on the Ballydonoghue boys to reverse that encounter. That they did, and with considerable ease which was most baffling as Desmonds never got out of first gear for the entire hour. Ok there were patches in which Desmonds tried to match their opponents, but these were really rare as Balydonoghue dictated the pace of the game for over three quarters of the contest. Such was their dominance that they burst into a four point lead without reply after just seven minutes on the clock. Padraig Lyons opened after converting a 20meter free on the 2nd minute followed by white flags from Brian Mason, Lyons again, followed with a marvelous sideline effort from Gearoid Kissane to set them on their way. The strength and excellent work rate of both Cian and Captain Martin O’Mahony at Centre field was top class as they fed their forwards with crucial passes setting up very valuable scores which made all the difference as four out of the six forwards scoring in the opening half. But there was also a worrying factor in that while Ballydonoghue dominated in this early period they failed to score from the 16th minute to the end of the first half. Ok they had a comfortable cushion by the end of the first quarter as they led by seven points with additions from Stephen Foley, Padraig Lyons and Kevin Cremin. Desmonds did not open their account until the 21st minute when Steven Bartlett converted a 20 meter free after Tadgh Walsh was fouled on his way through. Bartlett added two more conversions both on the 23rd and 30th to make the half time score Ballydonoghue 0-07 Desmonds 0-03. The second half began in similar fashion to the first as Ballydonoghue had another braise of points within the opening six minutes. Captain Martin Mahony slotted over the opener after 30 seconds followed by a Padraig Lyons 20 meter free after a foul on Brian Mason and Mason himself adding a gem after a wonderful movement involving both himself and Dermot O’ Connor. It was now 10pts to 3pts and even at this early stage it looked as Desmonds were on the back foot. A burst of pace involving Gearoid McCarthy and Stephen Bartlett with the latter kicking a well deserved point gave a small bit of hope that Desmonds might come back and put in a grand stand finish. Dermot O Connor fired over another two points in succession as a result of foolish fouling by the Island defense. A Graham O’ Connor effort on the 10th minute looked like it had goal written all over it, as he broke through a tight Ballydonoghue rearguard with his bullet of a shot just rising too high, indeed this was a let off at a crucial stage. But again the opposition broke down field and a further two points one from a free by Dermot O’Connor and Padraig Lyons slotting over from play looked as if the title was going northwards. But Desmonds did not throw in the towel and fought back with two well taken points from Steve Bartlett this made it 14pts to 7pts with only minutes remaining. However within three minutes of injury time Ballydonoghue and Desmonds had added goals, both coming from introduced substitutes Ballydonoghues goal coming from Eric O’Connor and Desmonds goal from towering forward Chris Brosnan. Captain Martin O’ Mahony received the Kieran Corridan Cup from kind sponsor Fergal O’ Connor of South of Ireland Waste Management and North Kerry Board Chairman Billy Enright.
