MATCH PREVIEW

Third round start for The Nomads with visit of Goytre United This afternoon sees The Nomads enter the JD Welsh Cup for the 2016/17 campaign with our third round tie with Goytre United of the Nathaniel Cars Welsh League. The side currently sit ninth in the southern league having earned 16 points from their 12 games so far in the league, and to progress to the third round of the JD Welsh Cup, they overcame Croesceiliog in the first round, having drawn 1-1 after extra time, they won 4-2 on penalties. They then progressed to a tie with Trefelin BGC where a solitary goal setup today's game. This is not the first time that The Nomads have met Goytre United in the Third Round of Wales' premier cup competition, having met in November 1997 with Goytre holding The Nomads to a 1-1 draw before bowing out following a 4-1 defeat in the replay the following Wednesday. David Rapson takes a close look at both of those games in his "Nomads' Archive" article today. The Nomads will be looking to build on last week's victory over Rhyl in the Dafabet Welsh Premier League as they bounced back from their 2-1 defeat at Newtown the week earlier. Ahead of the game, Andy Morrison said "We head into today's game looking to begin a good cup run. We reached the semi final last year and we're looking to better that achievement this season. We start that journey at home to an in form Goytre United who I watched last Saturday. Their 5-0 win could have been more - they have quality and experienced players and a manager who has been involved in the Welsh Premier system for many years, so we are under no illusions as to just how hard the game will be. Before the draw was made, I would have taken anyone at home. We are a formidable opponent on our own pitch and we know it will take a very good team to beat us. Enjoy the game."
