Having the fans able to watch our games in full is really good news, as I know how much the Nomads faithful are missing live matches right now – hopefully we’ll have positive news on that as soon as possible – but in the meantime, at least you can keep track of what is, despite everything, a very positive season so far. We’ve battled with a spate of injuries from the get go, so to come into this game 2nd in the league is a brilliant achievement, all credit going to Gemma Bamford our head therapist and all the coaching staff for managing the lads’ rest and recovery so well.

It’s hard to gauge what this afternoon’s game will look like as last time out at Jenner Park the action was all but cancelled out by John Disney’s red card – fingers crossed for no more of those this afternoon!

HONORABLE CLUB PATRONS Lord Barry Jones, Roger Speed

This match also marks the start of three matches in just 7 days, as we host Flint here on Tuesday evening and then Aberystwyth on Friday night away at Park Avenue.

Welcome everyone to our programme for this earlier than usual Saturday afternoon clash with Barry Town at Deeside. I’m glad to say it’s early for good reason, as the Sgorio cameras are here and ready to roll live for all Welsh football fans at home.

The fight goes on today and it will be tough against Barry, one of our closest rivals in the past few years. Welcome to Gavin Chesterfield and all his players and staff after their long journey up here.

SHOW RACISM THE RED CARD

Connah's Quay Nomads vs Barry Town United

EARLY TV KICKOFF SEES BARRY IN TOWN Saturday afternoon will see The Nomads face Barry Town United in a live televised clash on Sgorio. Barry’s form Gavin Chesterfield’s side currently sit fourth in the table, some eight points behind The Nomads, who are six behind leaders TNS. Barry will be looking for their first win since early October when they beat Cardiff Met 1-0. They have played five games since that win, losing two and drawing three, including a 0-0 draw against The Nomads in mid-October, a game which was spoiled by the early sending off of John Disney - a decision that was later overturned. Previous encounters at Deeside Since the re-emergence of the side from Jenner Park as Barry Town United, The Nomads haven’t lost a home game against them, picking up two wins and two draws since their first visit in 2018. The most recent result was a late 2-0 victory - the result of goals in the 91st and 93rd minutes from Jamie Insall and Declan Poole - a result which would ultimately help secure our first ever Cymru Premier title. From the gaffer Ahead of the game, Andy Morrison commented; “We welcome Barry this weekend in fine form - we are ahead of where we were at this time last season and considering the catastrophic injury list we’ve had to deal with, it’s again testament to the character of our players. Barry have also had their own injury problems but found ways to win. In our last encounter live on Sgorio, we played for 92 minutes with 10 men after John Disney was sent off, which was subsequently turned over. After watching Barry last weekend, we are in for a tough encounter and we will have to be at our best to keep our incredible home record going.” Connah's Quay Nomads vs Barry Town United 5

NOMADS DRAW WITH LAKESIDERS IN CLASH AT BALA

JD Cymru Premier Friday 20th November 2020 Deeside Stadium, Connah’s Quay, Wales

Faux (63’)

NOMADS DEFEAT DRUIDS AT DEESIDE Connah’s Quay Nomads defeated Cefn Druids by two goals to one at Deeside on Friday evening in the JD Cymru Premier. A Michael Wilde header opened the scoring with an own goal from Ryan Kershaw doubling their lead on the stroke of halftime. Josef Faux pulled one back for Druids in the 63rd to ensure a competitive finish to the game. • Michael Wilde heads Nomads in front in the 14th • An own goal from Kershaw gave them a commanding 2-0 lead at half time • Josef Faux broke through to keep Druids in the game • Nomads held on to make go three unbeaten The fixture saw Nomads return to Deeside for their first home game following the national firebreak. In the previous week, they continued their strong form prior to the season break, with a dramatic 2-1 win over Caernarfon Town thanks to Callum Morris’ 92nd minute penalty. That result saw Andy Morrison’s side come into the game sitting in third place, with the visiting Cefn Druids sat bottom of the table with only one win on the board. The two sides had last met in September, with Nomads recording their biggest victory of the season by five goals to nil at The Rock. Owing to suspensions and injuries, Nomads started a much changed side with defenders John Disney and Danny Davies returning to the starting 11, with goalkeeper Oliver Byrne stepping up to make his full debut in place of the suspended Lewis Brass. Cefn Druids manager Bruno Lopes meanwhile started the likes of Naim Arsan, Aaron Simpson and the recently signed Christoph Aziamale. The visitors started the game brightly with some early possession, but failed to test Byrne in goal for Nomads. The first 6

Connah's Quay Nomads vs Barry Town United

chance for the hosts came in the 6th minute, when Aron Williams got on the end of a Danny Davies cross but struggled to head on target. Connah’s Quay continued with attacking moves into the Druids area, and found the breakthrough they had been looking for in the 14th minute, when Aeron Edwards cut a pass to Declan Poole on the left wing, crossing to Wilde who headed home from close range. Just four minutes later, captain George Horan, who was playing in an attacking role, nearly doubled Nomads’ lead after a dropped ball which saw Aeron Edwards shoot and force a low save from keeper Jones, with Horan pouncing on the rebound only to be denied at close range. With 30 minutes played, Nomads were well on top of the proceedings and regularly threatening the Druids end with crosses into their area. Horan then again nearly helped them find a second, heading across the face of goal with no one able to connect and convert. In the 34th, Callum Morris was brought down by a heavy challenge from Ryan Kershaw, for which he saw a yellow card, with Morris recovering well to continue pushing into the Druids half as half time approached. Nomads did find their second before the break right on the brink of the half, with a powerful Declan Poole free kick being headed into the back of his own net by Kershaw. The second half began with Connah’s Quay again attacking the Druids end, but they hit back with their first real chance in the 48th via Azimale who shot low but saw the effort easily saved by Byrne. In the 50th minute, Aeron Edwards saw a shot saved well by keeper Jones, who was again called into action in the 53rd to deny Wilde with a near post flick from an Aron Williams cross. But on the 63rd minute, Druids made it 2-1 via Josef Faux who broke through on goal to slot underneath Oliver Byrne. Nomads sought to keep control, with Andy Morrison bringing on Brayden Shaw in place of Aron Williams in the 64th. Shaw got involved quickly with a strike in the 69th, but it went over the Druids goal. Shaw was again in the thick of the action sending a corner towards Horan with around 15 minutes left at Deeside, but his header deflected out for a second corner which was duly punched away by goalkeeper Jones. As the game went into the final 10, Druids were pushing for a late equaliser, and nearly found it in the 82nd with a header going just wide inside the Nomads’ box. There was another threatening moment for the hosts in the 85th, when a Byrne clearance was blocked leading to the Nomads’ piling into their area to block the oncoming Druids’ attack. Two minutes later the visitors made a claim for a late penalty after a Danny Davies slide tackle in the area, but a corner was given despite the Druids protests. The last action of the game did go to Druids, who won a free kick in a dangerous position on the edge of the Nomads box after a sliding tackle from Edwards, however, the resulting set piece was sent high and wide to confirm Nomads’ 2-1 win to leapfrog Bala Town into second place. A VIEW FROM THE STAND By Will Catterall

We’re once again at Deeside for a game that is always one of the biggest and most important of the season. Since their impressive rise back into the top-flight, Barry have been a welcome addition to the league and have reaped the rewards with European qualification in the past couple of seasons. Like us, they will once again have Europe in their sights this time round and are once again one of our closest rivals to achieving that goal. Our last meeting saw us lock horns in a 0-0 stalemate, but John Disney’s since overturned red card in the opening moments at Jenner Park seemed to kill the occasion before it had got going. We’re certainly hoping for more goals this time round as we continue to juggle injuries and suspensions within the squad throughout this season so far. Despite this, we’ve kept excellent form, unbeaten in three and still with only one loss from 11. The wait for a return of the fans goes on, so it’s great to have the Sgorio cameras here so all Nomads supporters can watch from home. Today also marks our first game of three in just seven days, as next week we’ll be at home to Flint. It’s a fixture that in another time could’ve yielded one of our biggest crowds of the season, but we’ll have to be patient and hope for a top-flight derby between our two clubs with a crowd in the near future. Going into the festive season, we’ll face Aberystwyth on Friday 4th December before returning home to face TNS, Cardiff Met, and then Flint at their place on the traditional Boxing Day fixture. Christmas will of course be different for us all this year, but we’ll be set on taking a good amount of points as we’ve come accustomed to during this period over the past few years. Score Prediction: Nomads 2-1 Barry Town Player of the Week: Oliver Byrne After Lewis’ Brass suspension against Caernarfon, goalkeeper Oliver Byrne has stepped up as our last line of defence, and had a great start against Cefn Druids last week. Andy Morrison has previously said he’s as good as any keeper in the league, and he’ll once again be able to showcase his skills in front of the camera this evening.
