THE ROYAL AGRICULTURAL WINTER FAIR NOT ONLY CELEBRATED ITS 90TH ANNIVERSARY AS A FAIR, BUT IT ALSO HOSTED DELEGATES OF THE WORLD HOLSTEIN-FRIESAN FEDERATION CONFERENCE. HOLSTEIN CANADA WELCOMED HOLSTEIN BREEDERS AND ASSOCIATION REPRESENTATIVES FROM 43 COUNTRIES, AND TOGETHER, THEY ENJOYED TWO HOLSTEIN SHOWS WITH INCREDIBLY HIGH QUALITY AND CONSISTENCY.

The cow classes started with some tremendous winners, with a lot of excitement around the placing of the senior 2-year-olds. The eventual winner was Butz-Butler Gold Barbara, with Valleyville Rae Lynn in second for Quality Holsteins, Grandja Ponderosa, Al-Re-Bo Land & Cattle.

Intermediate Champion, Cookview Goldwyn Monique, was bred by Kevin Cook of Stratford, ON, and Reserve Intermediate Champion, Robrook Goldwyn Cameron, was bred by Robin Parish of Woodville, ON. The Honourable Mention was Butz-Butler Gold Barbara and she was purchased as a calf, developed and sold as a VG-87 2-year-old by Walkerbrae Holsteins, Guelph, ON and Crasdale Farms, PEI. Additional highlights for Ontario exhibitors included Starbrite Lyster Lyndsay claiming the Longtime Production class for owners Starbrite Holstein and Hodglynn Holsteins and the black, silky group of cows for Quality Holsteins taking first place in the Breeder’s Herd class.

When the Ebyholme Dispersal took place in August, who would have thought that they had a Royal Reserve Grand Champion in the sale lineup. Brian Eby and Pleasant Nook Farm celebrated the win with Ebyholme Goldwyn Marcia, who was second Mature cow & Reserve Grand Champion behind RF Goldwyn Hailey. Congratulations to all Ontario exhibitors and breeders on the success that they achieved at the show!
