It’s Referral Time By; Jane Bergenske

Summer is here and the kids are out of school. It’s time to enjoy the Florida leisure time, plan a trip to the beach and celebrate our countries independence. With a list of activities and adventures to complete for the summer, many of these can be done on barter. I know many of you are thinking “I would rather spend my barter on building my business” but there is a way to make some extra trade dollars to spend on leisure things. The way to make extra trade dollars is through The Barter Network Referral Program. Many people know about this program but have simply forgotten with their busy schedule and for some people this will be the first time they have heard about it. The Barter Network Referral Program awards $250.00 for every referral that becomes a member with The Barter Network. Yes I said $250.00, which can go a long way; it can be used for a day at the spa, a fishing trip, or a stay at the beach; Whichever your choice this is an easy way for you to earn trade dollars, plus you are adding a new member to the group who you can use for the future.

Effective Leaders welcome change. They look for ways to modernize themselves and others around them, to make themselves and their peers better in today’s world. Nothing of real consequences ever happens until someone becomes passionate about achieving a specific Goal. You may not always be able to control what Happens in your life. Your ability to make the best of what you have will show what type of leader you have grown to be. Good Leaders look at alternative ways to prosper when times get tough. Barter can be one of those alternative ways to expand on what you are doing. Think Barter on additional items you can sell and on everything you buy. Gary Bergenske motivational books and CD’s are available in the Barter Network show room.

Looking into the Future By; Susan Hummell

Yes, I am Psychic. I can see all the way until November. We have established the date for our Christmas tradeshow, we have been having so much fun getting everyone together that we are looking forward to the next one already. Mark your calendars for Tuesday, November 18th, and the evening will start at 6:30pm. Please contact me as soon as you know if you would like to have a booth, I will be calling later this month to ask, but feel free to contact me first to reserve your spot. We have decided to change it up a bit this time around, the balloons will not be used, but the $20,000.00 give away will still be. However we are still in the concept phase for that portion of the evening, if you have any ideas you would like us to explore please feel free to email me at: Susan.Hummell@TheBarterNetwork.net

Step Outside of the Box

By; Susan Hummell

Take a moment and look at the way we do things… How we generate new business, how we let our existing clients know about specials and new products. Now, step outside of the picture and think about being a little different, maybe a little easier, or using a wider base for potential clients. Are you using Flyers?? If not, how easy would it be to distribute, if so, what about mailers? Same Idea, with a wider base… Newspaper and magazine advertising, changing up your target audience a little may help things out… If your regular target is to Businesses, try advertising in one of the family papers, many of today’s corporations are “in

6 www.TheBarterNetwork.net

home” businesses… Then if you put that together with your trade dollars, whether you realize it or not, each time you do business on Trade, you are reaching the friends, Family and business associates of that trade member, expanding the word of mouth advertising… add to that by using those trade dollars to send out a mailer to a new area, you are now reaching a lot of new potential clients…. If you start by advertising in one of The Barter Network areas ( Email Blast, Newsletter, Etc) someone is going to know someone who may need your product or services and that would in turn generate cash business.

Advertising is generally conducted on a “target audience” basis, but that target audience is not the only people you are reaching… a hair stylist advertises to the female crowd… generally this is her client base, but there are many men in the area that would use a stylist that would not see these ads and would ask friends or co-workers for recommendations… so in the same way, if your target audience were women, using a predominately men’s magazine would reach all of those loving husbands who want the best for their wives… Think outside the box…. Use your trade dollars to encourage new cash clients… THINK BIG…

Stand Up and Smile! Remember that feeling you had on the day you opened up your business. You closed your first deal and then collected your first payment. You were PROUD, you had taken the big step and gone out on your own. You knew everything about your product and were willing to bend over backwards to give GREAT SERVICE. When a customer called you would take as much time as it took to explain your company standards and how your company would do whatever it took to make them happy with your service. And whenever you had a new employee you would take extraordinary care to make sure that they understood how to answer the phone and brief customers on how GREAT your service was. And then you'd go out and give clients the best product and service in town. Everyone you did business with was very impressed. You got tons of compliments and your business flourished. Then slowly you started to let things slide a little, save a little money here, save an extra hour of training or let someone else do it. Customers weren't as happy and some of them even wanted there money back. You became a little jaded with "The customer is always right" and "Let's just slow down and do it the right way". Customers became secondary and customer service wasn't far behind. Well‌.what if you could go back right now and start doing business like it was DAY ONE. Every customer matters and making sure you and all your employees are on the same page! From now on every customer you talk to can be con-

verted into your very own PR person. You do such a good job that he's dying to tell all his friends about your business. Whenever I talk to a prospective client and they're concerned about how bad business is, I tell them to just keep taking good care of your customers and things will turn around. That's the real SECRET. Take care of your customers. Try being happy that you've got them on the phone, you probably spend a ton of money on advertising to get that wonderful person to call you. STAND UP and be proud of your company! Tell your salespeople to smile and be happy! WE can turn this economy around. But it's not a quick fix, it's still one customer at a time.
