St. Anne's Hospital, Fall River, will offer a Walk Your Weight Down course on Tuesdayevenings May 14 to June 25. Presented by registered dietitians Laurie Hammontree and Karen Corey, the course will include a guided walking program, computer analysis of participants' diets, behavior modification techniques for weight reduction, and a followup class after three months. "The key to this program is that we combine exercise and diet management," said Ms. Hammontree. Reduction of dietary fat intake, fad diets and "food cues'" will be discussed. The walking component is geared to each participant's ability. All that is required are comfortable clothes and walking shoes. Former participantsln the fouryear-old course have lost an average of ten pounds during the program and have maintained the loss when checked after three months at a followup class. Area students get PC scholarships The Providence College Rev. John F. Hogan Scholarship Fund, established in 1986, has announced that scholars1)ips for the current academic year were awarded to nine area· students. The total amount granted was $11,340, with individual scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,170. Recipients were Mark Brightman and Kevin Humason of New Bedford; Darren Sylvia, Acushnet; William Assad, Jason Buchanan and HollyThompson of Fall River; and Melissa Haskell, Annmarie Regan and Jessica Shannon of North Dartmouth. The fund memorializes Father Hogan, who was pastor of St. Julie Billiart parish, North Dartmouth,.at the time of his death on August 7. 1986.
