Many of the personal problems we face today (obesity, addiction, anxiety, stress, insomnia, fears and phobias) are often triggered by negative thoughts and beliefs that we create in our unconscious minds. The good news is that the solutions to these problems can usually be found inside our minds too. And hypnotherapy is a proven method of unlocking these solutions, quickly and permanently.

WHAT EXACTLY IS HYPNOTHERAPY?

HOW DOES IT WORK?

“Hypnotherapy has been acceptedand recognised by both the British and American Medical Associations since the 1950s,” says Kapiti’s only fully qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist, Anne-Marie Reast. For many people, the word ‘hypnosis’ conjures up thoughts of a stage show with members of the audience being persuaded to do silly things in the name of entertainment. But Anne-Marie says there is much, much more to hypnosis than this. “The truth is that hypnosis is a non-invasive, completely safe, and cost-effective way of curing a broad number of addictions (such as overeating and smoking), fears and phobias,” she explains. “And a good hypnotherapist can often rid you of anxieties within an hour.” “For example, our totally safe Virtual Gastric Band Weight Loss Programme can achieve fantastic results quickly for a fraction of the cost of the expensive surgical option.”

Hypnotherapists give clients appropriate therapy and suggestions while they are experiencing the state of hypnosis - a natural state of mind that we all enter many times a day without even knowing it (we often call this ‘daydreaming’). “Being in this relaxed state of mind allows messages to reach your subconscious mind,” says AnneMarie. “You are conscious, aware and in control at all times,” she explains, “I can’t make you say or do anything that you don’t want to do.”

With skin cancer sitting as the most common cancer to affect New Zealanders, amounting to around 80 per cent of all new cancers each year, these are questions you should be asking. Luckily for you, you can find the answers to all your skin cancer queries this August 9 and 10 at the Women’s Health Expo, which will be hosting a free community skin cancer education booth. In a non-diagnostic setting, the Know Your Own Skin Risk Assessment Booth will be available over the two days at the upcoming Wellingtonbased event, taking place at the TSB Bank Arena, Queens Wharf. Set to be manned by clinicians and dermatologists, who will provide risk assessment services in relation to skin cancer, the booth will offer in-depth information and education surrounding risks and treatment. Dermatologists Dr Ian Coutts and Dr Scott Barker of NZ Dermatology Skin Cancer Centre will be on handat the booth, alongside clinicians Dr Lise Kljakovic and Dr Mike Sim of the Upper Hutt Health Centre’s skin clinic. “This community education booth is available to all those present over the two days,” said LEO Pharma Limited’s New Zealand Business Manager, Darren Antaki-Smith.

We will also be inviting local MPs, Wellington and Upper Hutt Mayors, and health officials to attend the event, and we welcome anyone from the general public to attend for a free skin cancer-related assessment.” Among the features on the day will be a UV camera, which will be used to highlight individuals’ potential sun damage, Know Your Own Skin home leaflets, body mapping leaflets, information about available treatments, online skin cancer education, and one-on-one discussions with experts relating to risk assessment.
