A couple in Khandallah are celebrating two very important milestones. Eddie and Janet Stark are celebrating both Janet’s 80th birth-

“The Queen apologised and said she couldn’t get there,” Eddie says. The couple, who have four children, and currently eight grandchildren, married when they were in their early 20’s in 1954 at Knox church, Masterton. “We met at the local dance,” Janet says. “You didn’t meet at a bar in those days.” Janet thought Eddie was a “good looking fella” and a good dancer, and after his invitation to dance with him, they hit it off. “We started off with an outing once or twice a week, either the cinema or the local dance. Janet says they were sitting in a car when Eddie turned to her and said, “shall we get engaged?” Eddie worked for the railways and this position meant Eddie and Janet moved several times. “The house went with the job,” Rose says. Janet worked at the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. They eventually moved to Khandallah, where they have

day and their diamond wedding anniversary. The couple had a celebration at the Johnsonville community centre last Saturday to commemorate the occasion with family and friends. Eddie and Janet Stark celebrating their anniversary and Janet's 80th birthday last weekend
