Kapiti Cakes and Bakery welcomes back its popular range of fresh seasonal treats this month, in an indulgent line-up of award-winning Christmas fruit cakes and mince tarts, Christmas pudding, creative gingerbread novelties and traditional European treats. Having opened on the Coast in 2001 as the Windmill Quality Cake Shop, the newly-rebranded and ever-evolving family owned-and-operated business is looking forward to a busy holiday period at their Coastlands Parade setting. With a team of dedicated staff and assorted range of products, Kapiti Cakes and Bakery recently came out on top as the second top bakery in New Zealand at the prominent national Bakery of the Year awards, In a family affair stretching through the generations, owner Thomas Thomas and wife Mary bought the Kapiti Cakes and Bakery business 6-and-a-half-years ago from his parents, who opened the Windmill Quality Cake Shop brand 43 years ago. Furthering family ties, Mr. Thomas uses his European background to create traditional European products on site, including stollen, almond bars, almond rings and almond speculaas.
Come and Try Our Award-Winning Christmas Range “We also make all the English food such as puddings, cakes and tarts, along with Kiwi favourites and our popular gingerbread novelties,” he says. Mrs. Thomas says the latest stand-out feature for the business is its allergy-friendly food options, which includes gluten, dairy, soy, egg and rice-free products. “Our little girl has a few food allergies, so we’ve done an allergy- free range especially for that reason,” she explains. “While we do handle non-allergy-free products on site, we take a lot of care and effort to make sure our foods are as safe as possible, such as wrapping allergy-free products individually.” As experienced and dedicated bakers, the team specialises in finger foods for functions, covering weddings, baby showers, funerals and everything in between. “Come to us for your Christmas work shout, morning tea or that special event.” “We can cater for nearly any requirement all you need to do is ask!”
