A generous donation from Plunket A generous donation of $5000 from local Plunket branches has allowed Johnsonville and Porirua Car Seat serves to purchase some much needed new infant car seats. Onslow, Ngaio, Tawa and Johnsonville Plunkets donated money, along with local volunteer help and money rasied from the annual appeal and second hand sales. The Car Seat Services have purchased 15 new infant seats, Safety First Capsules, with bases that can safely suit infants up to 15kgs.
The Car Seat Services say they are very thankful for the “generous donation”. Earlier this year Johnsonville Car Seat services had no infant car seats available for hire. Added to this situation was the continued demand for six months hire, shortterm hires over Easter and 68 seats needed to be replaced over the next 12 months as they were reaching their end of their life. Plunket has offered car seat hire services for over 30 years. Families have the
option to hire infant seats, toddler seats and booster seats. All Plunket Car Seat coordinator staff are ‘Safe to Go’ trained. They provide a free service to ensure the right seat is correctly fitted in each car. Porirua has 769 seats and Johnsonville 242 - up from 167 seats in October 2012. Last month, 93 per

cent of infant seats were out on hire with an annual hireage rate of 90 per cent. With ongoing funding for car seats remaining a challenge
for Plunket, it will continue to rely on volunteer and community fundraising for replacement car seats.

Popular book fair draws crowds a large number of science fiction books they need a separate table to fit them all. Other genres include, but are not limited to fiction, animals, arts and music, geography, travel, literature, children's books, philosophy and technology. Life Education Trust committee member Joslyn Tjeerd says the fair has grown considerably over the years. She says people come from far afield as Otaki through to Hataitai to check it out. Bob agrees, saying there is often a queue stretching down the road from the Johnsonville Community Centre hall, where the book fair is based. “We open at 7.30am and there's a queue there an hour
beforehand.” The fair raises about $20 000 per year, half of which goes to keeping Life Education's long-running mobile classroom on the road, and half to Rotary's various projects such as the “Healthy Heroes” schools programme. Bob says Rotary Johnsonville currently have 22 members and are looking for more. “We're pretty laid back and we enjoy it.” The book fair runs from 7.30am – 5pm on Saturday May 25 and 8am – 2pm on Sunday May 26 at Johnsonville Community Centre hall, 3 Frankmoore Ave. Eftpos or cash only.

By Lydia Anderson Books for everyone abound at this weekend's annual book fair in Johnsonville. The fair, which has been running for 15 years, never fails to draw a crowd from across the Wellington region. Every year proceeds are split between organisers Life Education Trust and Rotary Club of Johnsonville. Rotary incoming president Bob Shennan says volunteers have been collecting truckloads of books from collection points for almost three months and have amassed 650 cartons packed full of about 35 000 books. “This year we've got a lot of large print books which are quite sought after.” He says they also have such
