Car thefts may not be related
A string of car thefts in the region may not be linked, say police. In the last week there have been several car thefts in Wakefield, Richmond and Stoke. That is on top of another three earlier in May, two of which were found burning at the Appleby River. Police say a high proportion of car thefts in Nelson are for joy riding, and while they’re still investigating many of the recent cases they couldn’t say if there was a pattern or not. On Saturday night, a Subaru Legacy was stolen from Nayland Rd. It belonged to Amanda Christie’s husband, who is fisherman and currently at sea near the Auckland Islands. “I emailed him and I got an email back full of swear words,” she says. “He feels useless because he’s down there, but I feel

It’s not our main family car so that’s the only good thing. Pets at work encouraged A national “Pets at Work” day is being promoted and one Nelson business says workers should give it a go. Rosie Burghart owns Expressions Flower Design on Hardy St and her four year-old dog Taco is a mainstay, coming to work every day. Rosie says Taco has been coming to work with her since he was six months old and he spends the day “chilling out” and taking in the at-
tention. She says she’s never had a negative comment about Taco being in the store. “In Nelson, we’re pretty lucky because most people love dogs. We’re definitely a dog-loving city. People get quite excited and some people come in just so they can say hello to him.” She says she often works alone so it’s nice to have the company.
Pets at Work day is being promoted for Friday, June 5, by pet-food company Purina. Jennifer Chappell, head of Marketing at Purina, says pets and the workplace are a good combination. “Whether it’s a ‘mental health’ break to play games with them or bringing them to a new business meeting to break the ice, there are a heap of benefits to having some wagging tails around.”

house or thrown out the window during the joy ride to Nelson. “My daughter’s car seat, her toys, our wallets, were all left on the side of the road, along with a full box of beer that wasn’t ours, I don’t know where that came from,” says Brittany. “Everything from our wallets was taken, but the wallets themselves were left and everything else was thrown out the car window on the way to town.” Brittany says she is shocked that their car was the one stolen. “When you come up our street there’s all these cars parked on the side of the road and not one of
them was targeted, and our place is on a back section and we have two German Shepherds so it wouldn’t have been the easiest to steal.” She says the car was locked. They first found out that the car was missing when Brittany’s partner received a call at six o’clock in the morning telling him the car was found in town. “My partner went to bed about 11.30pm and then my sister, who works night shift, got home about 3.30am, so I’m guessing it would have been between 12 and 3 in the morning.” Have you had a car stolen from your house in the past month? Death at intersection ‘only a matter of time’

Simon Bloomberg Workers in Wakatu Estate are convinced there will be a fatal accident at the corner of Main Rd Stoke and Elms St unless something is done to improve the safety of the high-risk intersection. A dramatic three-car collision during rush-hour last Thursday was the second crash last week and the latest in a long line of accidents at the intersection. The crash occurred at around 4pm when a car pulled out of Elms St in the Wakatu Estate and was hit by a second car travelling south along Main Rd Stoke – a third car was also involved, ending up in the ditch next to the road. Incredibly, three people, including two children, suffered only minor injuries in the accident, but Ian Gabites who works at the Bridgestone Tyre Centre in Wakatu Estate believes it’s only a matter of time before someone is killed at the intersection. “It’s not too bad during the day but at rush-hour it’s diabolical. I’ve seen three or four accidents there this year and there’s going to be more unless something happens. The guy down at Morley Motorcycles got taken out there a few months ago.

Tech-group hopes to grow businesses
A group of tech-savvy Nelsonians are hoping to nurture the future of digital technology in the region. Nelson Digital Futures Society has spun out of the region’s successful Gigatown bid last year. With 30 members and a committee of volunteers coming from the community and business sector, NDFS is hoping to contribute to digital development across the Nelson and Tasman region. Simon Gutschlag, chair of NDFS and chief information officer at New Zealand King Salmon, says he wants to see people sharing ideas and inspiration. “There was all this tremendous energy
generated by the competition, which united people in a way I haven’t seen before. Waimea Rd collision injures woman: One woman was left with minor leg damage after a crash on Waimea Rd on Friday morning. Two cars were involved, A 1988 grey Honda Concerto has received damage to the front bumper and bonnet, while the other car received minor damage. St John acting shift manager, Anne-Maree Harris, says an ambulance attended the scene to take the woman to the emergency department. House Fire in Ruby Bay: A house fire in Ruby Bay on Tuesday has burned out the living areas of a family’s home and left considerable smoke damage to bedrooms. The house, owned Marv and Jenny Edwards, was not occupied at the time of the fire and Mapua Volunteer Fire Brigade senior station officer, Aaron Thawley, says the family are safe and are being supported by their friends and family. He says he sent in fire crews after noticing a flame at the back of the building. “When we arrived the fire was smouldering. I noticed a flame at the back of the house so we sent a crew in. The kitchen dining area was well alight.” Mapua School has been accepting donations of food and household goods for the family. Landfill agreement delayed: The launch of a single regional landfill arrangement between Nelson and Tasman has been delayed from its proposed 1 July start. The proposal was for the Nelson-owned York Valley facility to be used as a regional landfill until 2030 when it is expected to be full. The Eves Valley facility in Tasman would be redeveloped for a similar use beyond that time. “The stumbling block has been the lack of agreement on funding future capital costs for the redevelopment of the landfill at Eves Valley to receive Nelson waste. This would be disadvantageous to Tasman ratepayers,” says Tasman mayor Richard Kempthorne. “We remain committed to collaboration and will continue to work on regional landfill options.”

Hairdresser selected for ‘Tool Blacks’
Nelson hairdresser Nadine Gratton will travel to Brazil as part of the “Tool Blacks” team.
Nelson hairdresser Nadine Gratton will join 14 others in the Tool Blacks team that will compete at the World Skills event in Brazil. The team includes representatives from welding, graphic design, cooking, carpentry, plumbing, sheet metal, aircraft maintenance, autobody repair, electrical installations, floristry and other industries. Nadine says she’s excited about the selection. “I was just over the moon because all the hard work I put in over the last few years has paid off. I get to go to Brazil and represent my country.” The 15-member team will
represent NZ in 15 of the 45 or more trade skills contested at the WorldSkills International competitions in Brazil. Approximately 1300 under-24 year old competitors from 72 countries will battle it out to win gold in their skill categories. More than 200,000 visitors are expected to attend the five day competition in Sao Paulo. The NZ WorldSkills team has had three rounds of competition to help them prepare for the international competitions. Team members had to win through the regionals, then the 2014 National and Oceania competitions, to get a place on the Tool Blacks.
Hotel veranda to be repaired Work to repair the Wakatu Hotel’s collapsing veranda is set to begin early next month, following Queen’s Birthday weekend. Bridge St traffic travelling west at the intersection will be affected, as Collingwood St will be reduced to one lane due to the safety zone around
the work site. Work is expected to take two weeks and will be undertaken between 9am and 4pm. Pedestrians will not be affected. The damage was identified in mid April and is believed to be due to the age of the building.

Thousands expected to flock to book fair Book lovers will flock to Founders Heritage Park this weekend for the annual Book Fair. The Book Fair opens its doors at 10am on Saturday and organisers say there are thousands of books up for grabs. Councillor Pete Rainey says, whether readers have a passion for hunting and fishing or knitting, New Zealand classics or science fiction, there is something for everyone at this year’s Book Fair. “A dedicated team of volunteers has worked incredibly hard throughout the year, carefully sorting the books as they come in. They have been amazed by the quantity and quality of the donations and are delighted that other people in the community will get the chance to enjoy them,” he says. The Book Fair is a major fundraiser for Founders Heritage Park and last year the nine day fair raised over $127,000. Extra $25 for families will be ‘great help’ Last week’s budget announcement will make a significant difference for many of Nelson’s poorest families, says Nelson Budget Service. The annual budget, released by finance minister Bill English, included an extra $25 per week for low income families. In total, that is about $4 million a year into 3500 Nelson homes. Rosalie Grant of Nelson Budget Services says the announcement wasn’t expected, but is very welcome. “It doesn’t sound like much but for some of our clients it will be enough to make a significant difference. We think the extra $25 will be a great help, we’re pleased about it.” Nelson MP Nick Smith says there are 1300 Nelson families on the benefit with children who will get an extra $25 per week from April 1 next year. He says Nelson has a further 2200 working families on incomes below $50,000 per year who will gain between $12.50 and $25.50 per week, relative to their income, through family tax credits. This package will assist a total of 3500 Nelson households and improve the standard of living for 6400 children. “Nelson is not a wealthy community and I see too many low income families struggling to give their children the best start possible. The Budget will put $4 million a year into our poorest 3500 households and help ensure everyone benefits from the improved economy.”

Founder of Fulton Hogan league up for award

Andrew Board Heather Walker founded the Fulton Hogan basketball league on one simple principle – inclusion. Ten years on, the league has had more than 200 players with learning disabilities participate and new competitions have been created in football, cricket and multi-sport. The success of the leagues, and her drive and dedication towards it, has seen Heather nominated in the community spirit section of the Pride of New Zealand Awards. She says the success of the Fulton Hogan league has been teamwork, on and off the court. “There’s a big team of volunteers that run the league and keep it operating. There are more than 40 people who make it work.” Heather started the league after coaching players with disabilities who could only practice. “They would practice and love it, but then, nothing. There were no games for them. Then, we had three big squads together and I decided ‘enough’, it’s time to start something up.”

She then went to the Nelson Basketball Association and had two requirements, the players be registered to the association and the league was to be played at the stadium where all the other basketballers played. “They had to be included and feel like they were playing in a proper league, not stuck out in some gym that nobody went to.” Ten years on the league is still the only one of its kind in the country and Heather has helped start junior programmes in football and cricket for children
with learning disabilities. She says the ultimate goal is to make sure the leagues are sustainable and the Inclusion Sports Trust has been set up to ensure that. All of Heather’s hours are voluntary and she can’t say exactly how many she does a week, other than “a lot”. She says she does it for love. “I’m really passionate about it and what these kids get out of it. So yeah, I do it because I love it.’ Nominations for the Pride of NZ Awards are now open. Letter writing makes a one day comeback Andrew Board In the age of Facebook, email, Twitter and Snapchat, one Nelson woman is urging people to quit instant messages and instead try “snail mail”. Snail Mail Day was held for the first time last year and is the brainchild of Hamilton’s Judi Billcliff. It encourages people to send a letter to someone. Nelson’s Alison Moore took part in the day last year and says she’d like to see more Nelsonians put pen to paper this year. “It’s as simple are writing and posting a letter, that’s it. But there’s something about the joy of receiving a letter in the post. It shows that someone has taken time out of their day to think about you.” This year Snail Mail Day will be held on June 13, but Alison says people can write and send letters any time around that date. “It’s just whatever you can do. Handwritten is nice but some people may prefer to type it out and then print it off. Whatever people are able to do.” She is hoping to get local schools involved and has been

Habitat for Humanity to open home store

Andrew Board Habitat for Humanity is set to open a secondhand homewares store in Tahunanui within the next few months. All they need is stuff to sell. Habitat for Humanity affiliates throughout the world run similar “ReStores”. Nelson chairman Rob Silcock says it will help secure the financial future of the organisation, while also providing Nelsonians with cheap, quality second-hand goods. “The cost of running an affiliate like Nelson has become quite huge because of compliance costs, auditing costs, and health and safety regulations,” says Rob. “So this is to help with those costs and to ensure that donations to us from local people go directly to building homes, not on compliance fees.” The store is due to open in the old Save Mart building on Quarantine Rd in early July. Volunteers are currently working on the building to get it ready for the opening and the board is advertising for a store manager. Committee member Brian Egerton says the big push now is to encourage locals to donate goods to the store. “If people donate us a good quality piece of furniture, that’s like a $100 donation to Habitat for Humanity. We’re hoping people think of us when they have old items they’d like to get rid of.” Items they’d like donated include household furniture, outdoor furniture, tools, building supplies, appliances, old kitchens and bathrooms as well. “Anything else that you’d use around your house is also welcome,” says Brian. “As long as its saleable.” The committee also has plans to buy a vehicle to pick up items for the store. Brian says the group is also looking for volunteers to help work in the store when it’s up and running. Rob says the ultimate goal of the store is to provide the organisation with more money to build more houses. “That’s what we want to see and that’s what our donors what to see, so we’re doing this to help make that happen.”

Young actors graduate from London college
Three Nelson students have graduated from a London acting college. Jake Byrom Robinson of Garin College, Ziyana Ruiz Lopez of Nelson College for Girls, and Myer van Gosliga of Nelson College, were presented with Level 4 Diplomas in Musical Theatre, graduating as ‘Associates of Trinity College London’. The full cap and gown affair was held at the Nayland College music centre last week. All have been members of Nelson Youth Theatre for many years, and have taken senior roles in musical productions such as ‘Les Miserables’, ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’, ‘All Shook Up’,‘The Sound of Music’ amongst others, and more lately ‘The Producers’ and ‘Hairspray’. Trinity College London is an international examination board that has been undertaking assessments since 1877, and provides recognised and respected qualifications ranging from music, drama and arts activities to English language, at all levels. Each year over 600,000 candidates in over 60 countries take a Trinity assessment. Trinity exams are regulated by Ofqual (Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation) and recognised around the world. The qualification entitles them to use the letters ATCL after their names.
PI MASTER: Nayland College student Blake Winstanley has beaten the New Zealand record for recalling pi’s decimal places. The 17-yearold recalled Pi to 2893 decimal places on Friday afternoon as part of Nayland’s Pi-Off competition. The previous New Zealand record was 1508, set in 2008. When the council approved millions of dollars for the fence, it also opened the door to continuous rate rises simply to fund the maintenance of the fence. Large slips are not the only problem. There will be huge maintenance costs forever that ratepayers will be expected to finance. Gate receipts alone will never be enough to pay for those costs.

Tears flow, smiles beam as Tetra win Rockquest Jacob Chandler Tears of joy ran down the faces of Nelson College for Girls band Tetra, as they received the top band award at SmokefreeRockquest on Friday night. The all-girl four-piece band took out the first place spot in the regional finals at the Theatre Royal and now have the opportunity to apply for the National Finals in Auckland. “I started balling, I was balling my eyes out,” says Tetra guitarist and vocalist, Lara Cammock. “It started when we were just doing a cover for school and Mr Altments encouraged us to try writing our own songs, and now here we are.” The band developed one of their original songs to play at the finals and vocalist Madi Fulton Buckle says she puts the band’s success down to their unique sound. “Coming into the competition we knew our sound was pretty unique and I think that’s a really big part of it. You don’t want to be just another band. I also think our voices sound quite nice together, so that

The father of 7 year-old cancer fighter Deanna Marsden says he’s overwhelmed at the community support for his family: “All I can say is thank you”. Adam Marsden says the money is vital for his family. “We had to give up our jobs, I’m still employed, but I’ve probably worked one full week since January and my wife had to quit her full time job. “We don’t ask for donations or anything but people just step forward, and what do you say? You can say thank you but people don’t really want to hear thank you. It’s awesome.” Deanna was diagnosed with a cancerous bone in her leg in December last year. She was flown to Christchurch for two rounds of chemotherapy and surgery to remove part of her leg. Adam says, despite the horrific journey she’s been on, Deanna is in great spirits. “She’s amazing. She had her cast off on Monday which was the first time she’d seen her leg since she had surgery. “We were a bit worried because she would be able to see completely what had been done, but it didn’t worry her one bit. She just started asking when she could start using her prosthetic leg and when she

Photo: Andrew Board. could start learning to walk again.” Adam says he and his partner DJ Lambert do alternating weeks in Christchurch and back with their other three children in Nelson. They did get some financial support from Work and Income, but Adam says that dried up about three weeks ago. They’ve been living off the proceeds of a Givealittle page that was set up by a family friend. All money raised from the community or donated by businesses goes into a separate account for Deanna, which will be used to help with her recovery when she arrives back in Nelson. Kirsty Tough organised the event at St Stephens Church and says she was “amazed” at the success of it. “We’re so thrilled. The community was amazing, it felt like every business we went to gave us something to

auction or giveaway, and there were so many people involved in helping to organise it and make it what it was.” She says the “carnival” included ten people shaving the hair on their heads, a bouncy castle, balloon lady, face painter, silent auction, as well as food and drinks. Mike Pero Real Estate’s Craig Hamilton says the donation by the foundation is the first time it’s been accessed for a Nelson cause. “Our challenge is to other businesses to give what they can.” He says they first found out about Deanna through agent Shelley Carppe who has been following Deanna’s journey via a Facebook page. “I’ve got three daughters, so it struck a chord with me,” says Shelley. Wine and Food festival money given to community Eight community groups and organisations from around Nelson-Tasman got a welcome boost last week when they received $18,000 in donations from the Rotary Club of Richmond, which raised the funds from their Brightwater Wine and Food Festival. The big benefactors of this year’s event, held at Middle-Earth Vineyard in February, were presented with cheques at a function at Club Waimea last week. It was the 11th time Richmond Rotary has organised the festival which has raised over $250,000 for the community, and one of the organising committee, Pete Glue, says “that’s a great result.” “We raised about the same as last year and that’s with losing a sponsor, so we were really pleased,” Pete says. “It means we can donate a good amount to the community which is why we do it.” The principal benefactors of this year’s festival were Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter ($7500), Brightwater Rural Fire Force ($3000), Wanderers Rugby Club ($2500), Nelson Volunteer Coastguard ($1500), Tasman Cycle Trust ($1500), Brightwater School ($1000) and Richmond Volunteer Fire Brigade ($1000). The helicopter trust’s general manager, Paula Muddle, says “it’s a great result for them and they deserve it because they work really hard. We are really appreciative of

Since opening its new building in May last year, Elim Christian Centre is continuing to grow and expand its programmes and community involvement. Thought to be Private Cyril Hector Inwood (serial no. 26267). Inwood was born on 1 November 1893 in Dovedale, New Zealand. On the Auckland War Memorial Museum Cenotaph database his next of kin is listed as John Thomas Inwood (father), Dovedale, Nelson, New Zealand. Inwood worked as bushman for Price Bros. in Baton, Tasman, New Zealand, before enlisting for service during World War One. He embarked with the 17th Reinforcements Canterbury Infantry Battalion, C Company, on 23 September 1916 from Wellington, New Zealand, for Devonport, England. Inwood served for three years and eleven days in Western Europe before being discharged on 8 June 1919. Inwood Mr Inwood. nelson Provincial died on 21 June 1982 in Nelson, New Museum, Tyree Studio Collection: 98738 Zealand.

When Suzanne Bateup closed her Nelson Weavers Gallery she was left with an abundance of wool and woven fabric. She donated many of the items to charities including the Christchurch earthquake, however she was left with wool warps that she had wound and hand-dyed that could only be used specifically for weaving. She contacted old friend Lesley Nicholls, a weaver based in Wellington, to see if she knew of anyone who would like to weave them up for charity. In her 70s, Lesley decided to take on the project herself. Over the past two years, she has handwoven over 100 coloured blankets and 50 pink scarves, and sent them back to Suzanne to wash, finish off and get ready to
sell for charity. Suzanne called upon the women of the Richmond Creative Fibre Group to help finish the items off by knotting fringes, ironing, trimming and labeling. Around 28 women from the group met at Birch Hall at the A&P Showgrounds last week armed with irons, combs, scissors and their hands, ready to assist. “Ladies have come from all over Nelson to help do this. Even though there are weavers, knitters and spinners, there is a lot of teamwork in our group," says Karyn Batt, president of the Richmond Creative Fibre Group. Lesley and Suzanne decided to sell the blankets and pink scarves, and donate the funds
from the sale of the blankets to both the Child Cancer Foundation and Nelson’s Fireshire Foundation. The sale of the pink scarves will go towards the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation. “This is a community project. These women have been very good in helping out, it is just part of our creative community life,” says Suzanne. An exhibition of woven garments will be displayed at The Refinery from June 19 to 26, with an opening on Friday, June 19, to thank all those who have given their time to the project. The hand-woven blankets and scarves will be sold during the time of the exhibition to raise funds for the three chosen charities.

While Suburban Silver continue to dominate Premier 2, the young Motueka High School side is quietly plugging away at their more experienced opponents. Having recorded two wins, they share second place with Jacks Red. Prices Gold registered their first W when they accounted for Jacks Pro 37-22 and sit on five points along with Stoke PowerSigns, while Garin Senior A, who were outclassed by Suburban 5323, Jacks Pro and Tapawera Nelson Honey have a win apiece and sit on four points. While Stoke PowerSigns began with an untested defensive lineup, Motueka’s offensive line launched an immediate attack, with centre Hannah Kelly and wing attack Georgia Teakle providing an abundance of stress free ball to their accurate shooters, Dylan Sixtus and Brittany Puata. Both shooters displayed confidence from the onset, and while they looked for the optimum

Stoke was guilty of taking the wrong option in pass selection, particularly in the last pass into their shooters, and they were severely punished by the doggedly defence around the circle by Hannah and wing defence. to goal attack settled the attack end and appeared to give goal shoot, Ammie McHardy confidence (and success) to put the shot up. Goal keep Jess Hildyard worked tirelessly to gather in the rebound to deny Motueka’s talented shooters a second opportunity, while Tessa Wright provided the punch through the mid court. Although Motueka missed Dylan’s presence in the third stanza, Shania Pascoe was a worthy substitute as she became the dominant shooter to convert all five of Motueka’s goals. Stoke reintroduced Clare Bennett-Hughes at goal shoot, while Ammie moved out to goal attack. Abbie did a power of work off the line at wing attack, and worked hard to feed from the circle edge. Stoke had their most productive period of play when they outscored the college team 9-5. Dylan’s return to the GS bib to shoot seven from nine, and Brittany’s increased activity of five from seven, put paid to any chance of a revival from Stoke. Motueka ended the game with an impressive 40-26 win.
Four Harris goals in ten minutes sink Nelson College Nelson College were the victims of an incredible ten minutes of goal-scoring carnage in the Nelson Pine Industries first division football competition at Jubilee Park on Saturday. Nelson was leading Richmond Athletic 2-0 when Richmond substitute Ben Harris made his way onto the park in the 65th minute, and scored four stunning goals to give the hosts a 4-2 win. Ben’s goals were all of the highest quality. The first was a left-footed drive of 25 metres, the second a stunning free kick from the same distance, the third a pin-point header from a corner and the final – the best – a bicycle kick from the edge of the box which smashed into the top corner of the far post. The win means Suburbs Seals are now at the top of the first division ladder after its strong win over Wakefield on Saturday. Nelson College sit in second on 13 points along with Marlborough and Nelson Suburbs.

Karters prepare for SportS top racing weekend Locally Owned and Operated
RUGBY: Nelson recording a confidence-boosting 46-0 win over Renwick in the Tasman Trophy rugby competition over the weekend. Wanderers also had an important 17-15 win over Moutere, while Kahurangi, Stoke and Marist wrapped up an all Nelson weekend, beating Central, Harlequins and Waitohi respectively. Waimea Old Boys had the bye, but still lead the competition. In the UC Championship (formally the Press Cup), Nelson College hosted Ashburton College and beat them 26-19, while Waimea College lost to Marlborough Boys College 54-10 in Richmond on Friday.

Nelson's top karters are getting revved up for the biggest weekend of the year, with the 30th edition of the Central New Zealand Sunbelt Sprint Championships at the Classic Hits Kart Raceway in Redwood Valley near Richmond this Saturday, with day two in Blenheim on Sunday. Karters will compete in eight heats and a final, only dropping their worst race result, at the two-day meeting that has attracted drivers from around the country. A big contingent of Nelson karters has entered the champs, including Junior Rotax driver Jarod Fisher of Nelson and Cadet Rok Class karter Josh Bradley of Brightwater. Jarod won the Junior Restricted Sunbelt title last year and has continued that form into the Junior Rotax class this year, winning the Jason Richards GP on his home track last month. However, Jarod says he is still finding his way in the new class and will have to be on top of his game to be competitive in what will be a strong field. "The kart is going pretty well, but I've needed quite a few practise sessions to try and get used to it," Jarod says. "It's a full-sized kart, compared to the

"But it will be an advantage racing on my home track on the first day. It's a technical track which suits me, although it's going to be a good field so it's going to be hard to win." South Island champ Ayden Polaschek from Christchurch is the favourite to win the class. Josh also featured at last year's Sunbelt champs, finishing second. He will be hoping to go one better this year but

will face strong competition from Marlborough's William Exton and Jacob Mitchell from Canterbury, who both won their classes last year before moving up to the Cadet Roks. Nelson's Matt Butchart lines up in the KZ2 class. Racing will be held from 10am to about 4.30pm this Saturday.

RUGBY LEAGUE: The clash of the season occured last Saturday when Richmond Rabbits played Wanderers Wolves at the Ngawhatu Sports Ground. It was a tight first half with both teams battling hard with the score showing 8-8 at half time. The pace of the second half didn’t let up but the Wanderers Wolves proved too strong in the end with Syman Duncan scoring two tries and converting all tries for the match, plus kicking a dropped goal, to secure the win with a final score of 31-20 to the Wanderers Wolves. In other matches, Tahunanui Tigers thumped the Wairau Taniwha, 90-8 at Tahunanui playing fields. Wanderers Wolves still lead the points table on 12, with Victory Phoenix in second place on 8 points and the Tahunanui Tigers and Richmond Rabbits tied on 6 points.

"We had a lot of guys away this week so had to call up a few people, but overall we're tracking quite nicely. We're just outside the top four and I'm confident we can be in that top four at the end of the season, that's our goal."
