Family Day - 13 April A&P Showgrounds Richmond The Nelson Vintage Car Club will be celebrating 50 fabulous years with a Heritage Rally weekend beginning on Friday, April 11. Vintage Car Club members from all over New Zealand will be arriving with their cars to take part in the event and help celebrate this impressive milestone. Fifty-five will then go on tour from Richmond to Blenheim, St Arnaud, Murchison, Maruia, Reefton, Westport and finally to Greymouth, where they will meet with the South Island members for the national Easter Rally. The 50 year Heritage Rally is going to be well supported with 120 entries for the weekend and cars coming from the North Island and the lower part of the South Island. Of the 35 vintage car club branches throughout the country, 15 of them will be represented next weekend. Jim Wareing, Secretary of the Heritage Rally and Tour Committee, expressed the gratitude of the Nelson Vintage Car Club for the significant support from Nelson Building Society. “The Vintage Car Club are very grateful to their major sponsor NBS who

contribute tremendously to the club and have helped immensely with the successful planning of their 50 year Heritage Rally and Tour.” Jim said. While the Saturday will be a memorable day for the club members, Sunday is the perfect opportunity to come and see the beauty of these vintage cars up close and personal. The Nelson Vintage Car Club have taken over the A&P show grounds for the day and will be hosting a public open day, including a range of interesting displays and demonstrations like their Gymkhana events. Although they can’t say exactly what form the Gymkhana will take, John Hurley, a founding member of the Nelson Branch and enthusiastic contributor to the organizing committee, says that there will be three separate, timed activities performed on the grass strip in front of the main grandstand and are tricky little activities to test the driver, such as changing a tyre, backing into a shed, driving through a maze or having to put a letter in the mail box while driving past.
