Monkeys and Munchkins Preschool & Nursery

arge grounds and space for children to run, play, discover and feel free are essential for child development and are important factors to consider when selecting a preschool. Located in the beautiful township of Tai Tapu is Monkeys and Munchkins. It has a naturally rustic setting in its outdoor environment with large play areas for children to explore. Both the outdoor areas provide age appropriate equipment such as a large raised fort, huge sandpits, bike tracks and playhouses and there is a focus on sustainability with a garden where the children are encouraged to plant and grow their own vegetables. Here the emphasis is on fostering each child’s physical, social, intellectual and emotional development. Monkeys and Munchkins is well-resourced providing an engaging curriculum that is specifically targeted to each child’s emotional and personal needs and interests while a low child to teacher ratio ensures a positive relationship between the child and their primary caregiver. At Monkeys and Munchkins children develop a lifelong love of learning. Their specialised programme is further enhanced with different activities such as weekly Thursday music classes run by a professional music teacher. The children sing, dance, move and play music in classes that allow each child’s natural love of song and dance to be tapped into, encouraging their innate musical skills. “Parents often comment on the warm homely feel the centre has,” says Centre Manager, Emma Aker. The Transition to School programme for all children four years or over is run by a primary trained teacher that prepares each preschool child with subjects such as pre-reading, writing skills, numeracy, problem solving, ICT, dance, music, science and geography. Monkeys and Munchkins provides a friendly, safe and nurturing atmosphere, supported by committed and highly trained staff who understand the importance of assisting parents with their needs. The preschool offers 20 hours ECE subsidy for children over three years of age as well as a daily optional extra of a healthy, nutritious home cooked meal. Monkeys and Munchkins Preschool & Nursery Ltd is privately and locally owned and operated. It is conveniently located in School Road opposite Tai Tapu Primary School; open 7.30am-5.30pm each weekday, making it convenient for local families as well as families living on the peninsula, to drop off and collect their children on the way to and from work.
