BETWEEN INTENTION AND RESULT
JEN A.
Not every action results in instant gratification
It often takes long hours, weeks, or years--An intermission, as it were--
Between intention and result
Think of the patience of the bird
As it waits from egg to empty nest
There’s a season to sow the seeds
And a later one to reap the fruit
The mosquito drinks
Before the itch commences
There is an interval of time
Between making a committed try
And ultimate failure
Between being bitten by the snake
And the poison crippling your heart
Between belief in his malicious lies
And the day democracy dies
BEAUTIFUL DISASTER
DEANA H.
Life goes faster when you walk past me
I’m standing there alone
Waiting for a coster of blessings
Come around my head
I stand in the street
You walk by and say
Hi And then as a blessing
You gave to me to hold
Send me home with hope and I stop to do better
Not a disaster
It’s cold out here
I am praying you bless me with a dime or two
For me to survive in this hard world
I thank God for people like you ‘cause it makes me have purpose
I’m not alone when you stop to help
God will bless you for my blessings
We all need each other as we separate ourselves for health and maybe wealth
One day I’ll be standing high
One day giving generosity like you
REVELATION
JEN A.
In this year of 2020
When the faithful gather
In their churches
To celebrate the Nativity
And to raise their voices
In carols of the season
(Against sound medical advice
And posing a deadly threat
To their wider community
Of believers and those who don’t-- Just because they can)
When they exclaim
“O come let us adore him”
They’re singing about Jesus Right?
